A Question Concerning Birettas

My FSSP parish priest has a pommed biretta.

However, if I ever become a priest, I’m making sure that I get a biretta that is not fold-able. As an MC, I find it very hard to fiddle with a fold-able biretta. Especially when it’s a solemn high Mass and there are three birettas to keep track of.

If you have any questions about the FSSP seminary I have some personal experience (limited though it may be). Shoot me a PM if you want. 😎

It’s a very nice seminary. State-of-the-art. It’s close enough to Lincoln (20 minutes or so) but secluded enough and slightly on a hill that it feels like you are in the country. For the country boy like me, it’s a beautiful desolation.

The only problem is that Nebraska is flat. 😠 And I’m more of the rolling hills type. But you can’t have everything.

Argh! God has His plan for me, and I totally support and uphold the Church’s teaching on the priesthood, but boy would it be such an honor to be able to discern such a beautiful vocation with such a great community! 😭

You fold them in between wearings in the service? I’ve only ever seen them folded after Mass/for travel

Well, they kind of fold by themselves. It’s quite irritating.

I haven’t encountered too many of them, but the folder we purchased my OF priest for his birthday seemed to stick there- none of us could figure out how to unfold it, which was fine haha

At my Oratory, Oratorian priests wear pom-less birettas, whilst any visiting priests, or indeed any diocescan clergy, wear pommed birettas.

I don’t like them, personally.

I’d get an un-pommed one if I ever am a cleric.

(Or even hopefully a 4-finned one 😃 )
