I have a question that I would like to ask behalf of a friend. How would one know if they are posessed by an evil spirit? Are there any universal symptoms? Does the posessed individual ALWAYS have an adverse reaction to holy water and blessed objects? I ask because my friend is experiencing strange things happening in his home. Like things are moving around basically. But thats pretty much it. He asked me if i think he is posessed. I didnt know what to tellm him. He can touch holy water and go to church without any problems.
I believe him when he says things are moving around because I knew this guy for a while and hes of sound mind I also know that he used to be into magic. So I think he definity has an attachment. But im wondering if its safe to rule out posession.
Any way I told him to talk to a priest. Im just kind of curious because I have always wondere if there was a way to test for demonic posession.

I don’t know, but definitely follow up with him and make sure he talks to a priest. This is not something to ignore.

According to Father Fortea, an exorcist from Spain, the four main actions that demons take are: possession, influence, temptation and infestation. I am guessing your friend’s case would be “infestation of a place” (like a house or room). Father Fortea says this usually does not require exorcism but only a priest’s blessing of the place. Sometimes you just need a group of people praying in the infested location.
You can go to this link www.thousandmiracles.com/the-dark-side and scroll down to the part about Father José Antonio Fortea. After the priest blesses the house, your friend should probably place holy water and a crucifix in each room. And of course, he should call on the name of Jesus if your friend is present when these things happen.

How would one know if they are posessed by an evil spirit?
Common symptoms would include things like speaking in languages the victim would have no way of knowing, of being aware of highly confidential information they would have no access to, or of having inhuman strength.

So, for example, a simple factory worker could suddenly start correcting and mocking Father’s Latin while scolding him for sins he committed as a teenager, and which no one but his Confessor knew about.

But, according to Fr. Gabriele Amorth’s *An Exorcist Tells His Story, *the only way to properly diagnose possession is to actually conduct a solemn exorcism. It is in exorcism that symptoms like those above begin to show up.

On pages 46-47:
*t is my significant experience, and that of all the other exorcists whom I questioned, that these signs [of diabolical possession] always surface *during **an exorcism, never before. It would be unrealistic to expect the manifestation of these signs before proceeding with the exorcism. (Emphasis in original.)

According to Father Gabriele Amorth, the famous exorcist in Rome, holy water does not always work as a test for the presence of demons because demons sometimes go to great lengths to hide themselves even though the holy water causes them pain and agitation.

Just found this quote: “If a person is sensitive to blessed water or clothes, it may be a sign of an evil presence. I cannot make the opposite statement. In other words, if there is no reaction to these tests, it does not necessarily mean the absence of an evil presence. Demons go to any length to avoid detection.” (An Exorcist Tells His Story, Fr. Gabriele Amorth, p. 120)
