Can someone please tell me what the eucharist is and what the Biblical evidence for it is?Find out what their pastor thinks. I am willing to bet money that the pastor would find your friend in error.

Jon Hus;6841796:
The Church is the name for all the people who follow Christ- all the Christians. We’re all part of the church, and part of the body of Christ. When the Bible refers to the “church” it’s refering to the trillion or billions of Christians that have lived/ will live.My defense will be the Scriptures, yours will be the Church.QUOTE]
This suggests that the Bible and the Church could contradict each other. Our Lord promised to S. Peter that the gates of Hell would never prevail against His Church. Catholics can trace an unbroken history back to that Church entrusted by Christ to the authority of His Apostles.
The Bible was put together by the Church for the Church, guided by the Holy Ghost. The Bible identifies the Church as the ‘pillar and bulwark of the Truth’ and confirms the authority of the successors to the Apostles (Catholic bishops and priests) to guide and discipline the faithful.
S. Peter wrote ‘No prophecy of Scripture is a private matter’. A Christian cannot be justified before God by using his personal interpretation of Bible against the Church through whose authority the Holy Ghost gave us the Canon of Scripture.
Where;s the Biblical basis for purgatory? The souls of believers go to paradise. Remember on the cross, where Jesus said to the repenting criminal that he would be with Christ in paradise that day? Sorry, doesn’t sound like purgatory to me. =)So only catholics have to go?![]()
I have no idea. Ever since the change of denomination (there was a gay marriage (my church is against it.) controversy, so my church changed to Anglican. I’ve only known it as Anglican since then.TEC? ACNA, or Continuing Church?
You do not see it because Protestant Bibles have less books, precisely why you do not comprehend it. And Jesus’ promising the criminal paradise disproves purgatory? Then why even bother with Hell? And Jesus’ death on the cross is not a guarantee everyone is going to heaven.Where;s the Biblical basis for purgatory? The souls of believers go to paradise. Remember on the cross, where Jesus said to the repenting criminal that he would be with Christ in paradise that day? Sorry, doesn’t sound like purgatory to me. =)
Precisely why non-Catholics are so divided and splintered, because everyone goes off their 'feelings" or “rights” to believe what he or she chooses. God is not about what we see or how we feel, it is about the Truth. You have every right to believe that the Roman Catholic Church “put together” the Bible. I do not see it that way. You have every right to believe that Jesus founded the RCC on the back of Peter. I again, I don’t see it that way. Your definition of the church is different from mine. You have the right to believe this, that doesn’t make it true.
Hello, Mr. “I’m going to ignore you,” at least until I say something you agree wit! Thing is, this whole thread is weird, because it isn’t clear what your question is, or what point you are trying to make! Do you want to know why we don’t call ourselves Protestant. or why we don’t align ourselves more closely to the catholic church? I believe that many nondenoms are where they’re at, because they finally gor tired of overbearing, self-righteous, rligious zealots trying to control their worship, their giving, their dress codes and other things to numerous to list here! Spouting doctrine they claim is God inspired when it may just be their interpretation of it! Remember why the people came from England to America; to escape religious pesecution! There are many who have reinstituted this practice, which also screams “Control”. Legalism iin the Christian world is rampant, and is probably the biggest enemy of those wishing to worship, hands held high or not at all in this country at least! Telling people that they are not honoring the Sabbath by observing it on Sunday, or that they are going to Hell if they don’t do this or thatYou are the newest addition to my ignore list for either the unwillingness or inability to make a comment that truly adds to the conversation.
Truth be told though, you don’t really care whether noncatholics are splintered or not, do you?Precisely why non-Catholics are so divided and splintered, because everyone goes off their 'feelings" or “rights” to believe what he or she chooses. God is not about what we see or how we feel, it is about the Truth.

Actually, believe it or not, I do care. However,as long as the element of HUMAN PRIDE exists, unification will always be a very big uphill battle.Truth be told though, you don’t really care whether noncatholics are splintered or not, do you?

- Do you believe that non-Catholics have a bigger problem with human pride than Catholics?
- Is there anyway to defend oneself against the charge of pride that would be persuasive?
- Not necessarily. Many Catholics also suffer from pride because they refuse to accept and follow what the church teaches.Pride is pride, however, the foundation of thousands of different churches can be a direct result of it as well.Do you think Luther didn’t have a lot of pride?
- Yes! If we are ALL Christians, then why need or desire to go start entire new and different churches? I thought Jesus founded one church? Why go start another? What is wrong with the church Christ founded? It is an obstacle for many because it conflicts with the lifestyle they follow.
Some folks are going to be awfully surprise and disappointed as to their lack of rights, if and when they reach heaven. You have every right to believe that the Roman Catholic Church “put together” the Bible. I do not see it that way. You have every right to believe that Jesus founded the RCC on the back of Peter. I again, I don’t see it that way. Your definition of the church is different from mine. So who decides what is orthodox or heterdox? Cannot be binded to the Bible-Alone,because history has shown it causes divisions and splintering. Either Christ promised to guide His Church or His words were empty and a cop-out?
- I think people have doctrinal differences. If you honestly do not believe what the other guys are teaching, I do not think that is pride. Pride comes to my mind when I think of someone in it for themselves or to make a buck.
His innovation of novel doctrines seems like a mixture of ignorance and rebellion.I do not know if Martin Luther had a lot of pride. His writing is too polemic for my taste. I recognize though that could be his particular era.
I disagree. Catholics & Orthodoxs share a lot in common ,then differences. Some mainline Protestants and,Lutherans,Anglicans,Episcopilians, etc do share some common ground with Catholicism. I call them Catholic-Lite…
- The problem of starting churches was around a long time before I was born. I will tell you this, if I were one to believe as you probably do, I would have a very difficult choice between the different Orthodoxs and Catholics. I have dipped into that whole area of disagreement and if I were to dip in again I would imagine I would be just as confused as I was then.
I understand your what you are saying. Unfortunately, with any religion people will always pick and choose what suits them. In other words, many people always want to be little gods and determine how they will reach Heaven based on their terms and requirements. Now that is pride! As far as lifestyle, in my life experiences I do not see much behavior differences regardless of where they go to church. If I were to pick a church on just my own personal experiences with really nice moral people, I would probably get thrown out for saying what group that is in my own experiences Okay its the Mormons. Every Mormon I ever met was really nice and easy to get along with and seemed really straight laced.
Finallly, I do not think that Catholicism has as rigourous as requirments as like the Jehovah Witnesses where Christmas, Easter, movies, most of my evenings, birthdays, and blood transfusions would have to go
I assume that you think that the Bible is a gift from the church of Rome. I believe it is given to us from God for our education in the faith. I place my trust in it’s words and teachings and gladly will let the chips fall where they may. Freedom of religion and all. Some folks are going to be awfully surprise and disappointed as to their lack of rights, if and when they reach heaven.
And that is where your profound misunderstanding lies. It is not a question of WHO gave us the Bible, but HOW God managed to do it. Through His Church and its bishops and history conclusively confirms it is the Church of Rome and not amount of denials and protests can erase history.I assume that you think that the Bible is a gift from the church of Rome. I believe it is given to us from God for our education in the faith. I place my trust in it’s words and teachings and gladly will let the chips fall where they may. Freedom of religion and all.
I do not think that people pick and choose what suits them all the time or even possibly most of the time. I think that they follow what they are taught, through the lens of their background, education, and understanding. Often, people make tremendous personal sacrifices and it is not a pick and choose. So who decides what is orthodox or heterdox? Cannot be binded to the Bible-Alone,because history has shown it causes divisions and splintering. Either Christ promised to guide His Church or His words were empty and a cop-out?

I see your point and it is well taken.I do agree to a point people follow what they are taught through their backgrounds, education and understanding. However, that does not mean it is correct or they are following the teachings of their church. An ignorant Catholic may at one point not even know that the church is against abortion, but later learn about it and learn that it is wrong. However, the individual may still choose to have abortions or support pro-choice. That is my point.I do not think that people pick and choose what suits them all the time or even possibly most of the time. I think that they follow what they are taught, through the lens of their background, education, and understanding. Often, people make tremendous personal sacrifices and it is not a pick and choose.
I can name several people who, in different circumstances, engaged in great personal sacrifice to follow their beliefs. I bet you could too.
I find your glass a little too half empty in all honesty
I prefer to see the best in people and never assume they are self serving unless I have reason to based upon what I find out. Even then, I try to cut them some slack
This Universalism is very attractive for freedom of religion. Not to get off topic here, but would I be able to practice my ancestor’s religion of capturing my enemies sacrificing them to my deity and then consume their body and blood? Could your Freedom of religion allow me to practice my ancestor’s religion again?I assume that you think that the Bible is a gift from the church of Rome. I believe it is given to us from God for our education in the faith. I place my trust in it’s words and teachings and gladly will let the chips fall where they may. Freedom of religion and all.
