A Question for our Muslim Posters

Hello All,
Admittedly I’m new to Catholism and a Catechumen to the Maronite church in it. But, I have a question thats been bothering me. I remember reading somewhere that the Muslims still do sin offerings. Now I also remember reading that they acknowledge Jesus. Yet, if thats the case why do they still do sin offerings? I thought Jesus’s sacrifice for us in the Eucharist stopped the need for sin offerings as his sacrifice fufilled it as nothing can equal what he did for us all. What am I missing? This question is actually meant for our Muslim posters but if anyone knows please enlighten me.

Muslims just as Jews and most Protestants do not believe in the Eucharist. In Islam a person is responsible for their own sins and there is no notion of a savior dying for the sins of the world. Islam accepts Jesus as a prophet, but not the Son of God and part of the Blessed Trinity.

Due to this, sacrifices are still necessary or important for the atonement of sins. I do not believe this exclusive to live sacrifices. So fasting, alms giving, and praying are also involved in atonement for sins.

As Lead Me Home said, Muslims do not acknowledge Christ as God or as the perfect sin offering (let alone a sin offering at all). They believe he was simply a prophet.

Muslims deny that Christ was crucified. Rather, while on the crucifix, he was lifted to heaven by God. Thus, no concept of a universal sacrifice (as in Christianity) is present. The way away from sin is submission to the will of God and practicing as Muhammad taught.

I’m not sure what the poster is referring to as a “sin offering” in Islam. If they are referring to the animal slaughtered at Eid, that has nothing to do with trying get forgiveness for sins.

why do they still do sin offerings?

Animal sacrifices in Islam are two types, one is part of Hajj/Eid rituals, and the other is for new born babies:

*Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 68, Number 465:
The Prophet slaughtered two rams, black and white in color (as sacrifices), and I saw him putting his foot on their sides and mentioning Allah’s Name and Takbir (Allahu Akbar). Then he slaughtered them with his own hands.

*Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 66, Number 380:
I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “'Aqiqa is to be offered for a (newly born) boy, so slaughter (an animal) for him, and relieve him of his suffering.” (Note: It has been quoted in Fateh-AL-Bari that the majority of the Religious Scholars agrees to the Hadith narrated in Sahih At-TlRMlZY that the Prophet was asked about Aqiqa and he ordered 2 sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl and that is his tradition “SUNNA”.)
