I have looked up the definition of apostasy and see that it is generally used with a total abandonment of the faith. Wo I do agree with you that the term used in this instance is not correct. I made a mistake. I do not believe the Catholic Church is in apostasy.
Thank you very much.

Jon

I was raised Catholic, was a practicing Catholic and am now a non Denominational.

Benidict it is the stuff that gets discussed here ad nauseum: statues, prayers to the saints, role of Mary etc.
hi hisalone. thank you for the clarification. how long have you been in a non denominational church? did the Catholic practices you describe always bother you? as a former baptist, id have to say the hardest part for me was the role of Mary also. that was until a very clear set of circumstances and “revelations” occured. which one of these that you listed cause you the most problems? peace in Christ 🙂

Hello Benidict I left Catholicsm maybe 15 years ago.
It is through the study of His word and the following of His Spirit that has brought me to this point on my journey.
It is not any one thing that lead me away but the entire approach of our relationship with God and the role of the church.

thank you hisalone. so can i rightly assume you were a cradle Catholic? also, do you ever still feel a pull to go to mass, or pray the prayers of the Catholic Church? there is a reason i ask this. Peace 🙂

Benidict, yes I was a cradle Catholic. I dont miss the mass nor the prayers. I once had a discussion with my father where I asked him for a dollar. He was about to give me the dollar when he pulled back sensing that I was about to make a point. My point was after he had given me the dollar I would have given him ten. I told him if he would let go of what he had that he thought was valuable he could recieve something of much greater value.
Benidict I have the presence of God with me wherever I go. I walk with God as Enoch and Noah walked with God. Im not some ultra pius “saint” but an ordinary person. God desires this of all His children. To walk in the Spirit and not of the flesh is what we are commanded to do. The bible is so alive, it is what I live eacch and every day.
Isnt this something which every believer should have?

yes my friend, it is something every believer should have. i for one have found this in the Catholic Church. my relationship with Jesus has never been stronger. im kind of like you, but on the opposite side of the coin, shall we say. the thought of even entering a protestant place of worship, makes me uneasy. i really do not see anything of value, in protestant worship. it is in my view a pretty shallow experience. just my view. the reason i was asking you about this is because i had a fundamentalist attempt to evangelize me. he was a cradle Catholic as well. i found out then, that we really do speak two different languages. but after soundly condemning the RC for being the whore of babylon, and slamming Mary, i got him to admit, that he still attends mass at times. and still has an attraction to the Catholic Church. i asked him how, if he thought the RC was of the devil, and the w.o.b. could he under any circumstances partake in its worship. he could not answer my question. sad… how do you feel about the RC. do you believe it is the whore spoken of in revelation? if so, why? i know im asking alot of questions. but you are giving good answers, and i really want to know, why someone would give up the awesome heritage they have with the Catholic Church. i never understood this, even as a protestant, with lapsed Catholic friends. Peace in Christ 🙂

I hope it’s not the one that dances with snakes or protests at soldier’s funerals.
no i dont think he is one of these. lol! they seem to be restricted to the backwoods swamps, and apallaition mountain region.😉 peace 🙂

Well he did not say where he was from. They are one of the 30,000 or so denominations. I know the soldier funeral protesters are found of calling us apostates and pagens too.

If you have that relationship with Jesus as you claim, you could never kneel before a statue and light a candle and talk to St Jude or whoever. Nor could you defend anyone who did.
Nothing of value?

I never slam Mary. Jesus said His mother and His brothers are those that believe. Mary a woman who perhaps had the greatest faith of any human in the bible. To say she is without sin is to call Gods word untrue. Yes I know all the Catholic polemics and word studies on the issue and they just dont hold up.
The Whore of Babylon has not yet been fully revealed. I believe it will be the end time church which mixes the Babylonian mystery religion with elements of Islam, Judiasm and Christianity to form a one world religious system.
A person can be a good Christian and be a Catholic. A Christian is one who is born again and professes Jesus as Lord and Savior.

I come from a mixed heritage - French Catholic on paternal side, Old Yankee Protestant on maternal side. I have relatives and many friends in both camps. My interest here is dialoguing - and, honestly, espousing the idea that there should be plenty of room in Christianity with no one claiming to have the ‘only true faith’ and that all other faiths are heretical or schismatic or suffer from some other major weakness. I have concluded over the years that we’re all rather ignorant. The more we learn about this massive, miraculous and mysterious universe the less I feel the human mind can comprehend. When I read the Church Fathers, I both admire their brilliance for their age but find them primitive in their observations on many things. Why not? Their telescopes were poor and they had no microscopes. Superstition helped explain lots of things that we understand better today.

My problem with Protestantism is also what I respect about it. It offers all sorts of alternatives. Mainline Protestantism as a whole is very 'big tent'. Its churches have liberal Unitarianish types as well as conservaive evangelicals. The line is not drawn on theology, but basically on fulfilling the two commandments of Christ - love God and one another. Remember how the lawyer asked Jesus how to gain eternal life? Jesus did not answer believe this or that. He gave the two great commandments, then illustrated them with the parable of the Ten Commandments.

I'm inclined to think that human beings (and their churches - all churches that are dogmatic) simply aren't equipped to understand the ultimate realities of existence. Some day - maybe - in heaven all of us are likely to be surprised. We'll be joined by Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, those of Native American faiths, and millions more of various religions. This notion that there is 'one true church' is unrealistic, uncharitable, divisive, demeaning, and too often bigoted. Sadly, many traditionalist Catholics and fundamentalist Protestants feel that they have the truth and the rest of us don't. Silly arrogance.

Most Catholics and Protestants I know embrace the theme: "think and let think". If you love God and love one another, let us walk together without fighting over piddlings. Did Padre Pio really belocate and levitate? And I've read there's enough relics of the true cross to make dozens of huge crosses, enough relics of Mary's clothing to make a huge wardrobe, etc. As for Pentecostal Protestants, when I see Benny Hinn, Pat Robertson, Tilton, and others, I have trouble believing them, too..

Sorry. I, of course, meant the parable of the Good Samaritan. Haste makes mistakes.

Time and time again in the OT the Isrealites turned from worship of the true God and incorporated elements of the surrounding cultures into their religious practice and daily life. They fell into this sin because it is so easy to do unless you stay vigilant. Catholics will say that Jesus has promised the Catholic Church that the gates of hell will never prevail against it.
That is what you are taught. That is not what Jesus said.

That is why God gave us free will. However, you abuse it at the peril of your soul. Also, you left out the Wiccans and Voodoo doctors.

but my friend… every fundie likes to call us pagan, and apostate:D Peace 🙂

I’d like to remind my Catholic and Protestant brethren that “Ex Catholics” make the absolute most vehement “Anti-Catholics”. It’s how they fight the lure back to their Christian heritage.

hello my friend. this video is just one of the problems i have with the way many protestants worship now days… and a few Catholic parishes i might add. they have taken down the cross, and exchanged it for a big screen t.v. instead of listening to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, they have bought into carefully choreographed emotionallism. this is sad. as far as kneeling before statues, i cannot kneel. my knees are bad. but if a protestant pastor kneels with bible in hand or lifts it up over his head is he worshiping his bible? i do not know. but lets not forget. when the people of israel sinned, and God sent poisonous serpents into their camp, what was the remedy? God had moses fashion a pole, with a serpent on top. so that anyone who would look at it would be healed. was this idolotry? when the israelites crossed into the promised land. the ark of the covenant went before them. where all of them could see it. and the waters were parted. was this idolotry? not to mention all the vessles and tools used in Jewish temple worship, that were ordained of God. we do not worship the saints or Mary. we ask for their intercession. no different than if i would ask you to pray for me. God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. peace 🙂
