Exactly WHAT Protestant churches have you been to and where?
In my neighborhood we have:
Baptist - Sunday School on Sunday morning, Praise and Worship after Sunday School for an hour and a half, and a teen-oriented Praise Band thing in the evening (7:00 pm). No services of worship during the week. Bible Studies, segregated into Men’s, Women’s, Singles, Young People’s and Married Couples’ during the week (one meeting during the week for each group), but that’s it - no services of worship during the week.
Plymouth Brethren - Sunday morning Breaking of Bread (9:00 - 9:30 am), Sunday School (9:45 - 10:30 am) Fellowship Hour (10:30-11:30):, and Bible Exposition (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm) - house church groups during the week (once a week, 2 hours of praise and Scripture explorations, for each house group.)
United Church of Canada - Sunday Service, 11:00 am to 12:00 noon followed by a Fellowship Hour, one Bible study during the week, “all welcome,” but no services of worship during the week.
Anglican - Service of Holy Communion, 8:00 am,morning, Service of Word, 10:00 am, on Sundays. Various mid-week groups, including one Bible study, but no services of worship during the week.
Jehovah’s Witnesses - I’ve never actually gone in, but the schedule on the door lists for Sunday morning, Public Talk - 9:00 am, Watchtower Study - 10:00 am. and for Thursdays, 6:00 pm, Theocratic Ministry School (I’m guessing this would be their convert training classes) followed by something called a "Service Meeting at 7:00 pm. I don’t know whether JWs have services of Holy Communion, and it’s not clear exactly what they study during their services of the Word.
We also have a New Apostolic Church that meets on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings for praise and worship, and there is a new “non-denominational” church that has taken over the old synagogue - they haven’t put up their schedule, yet, and I’ve never been there - they just got going quite recently. I rather doubt that they are having services of worship every day, though.
By contrast, at my parish church, we have Sunday Mass at 5:00 pm on Saturday, 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 noon and 5:00 pm on Sundays. On weekdays from Monday to Friday we have Mass at noon, and on Saturday we do the daily Mass at 8:30 am. In addition, we have Bible study on Tuesday evenings and Thursday afternoons, we have Liturgy of the Hours on Saturday mornings, and we have RCIA Inquiry for adults on Wednesday evenings, RCIA Catechesis on Sunday mornings, and children’s Sacramental Preparation on Thursday evenings. We also partner with an elementary school, where our priests say a school Mass once a month, and teach children’s Catechism classes every day during the week.
Also, do you have a list of those 33000 different denominations of Protestants? I keep hearing that number with nobody giving a list.
I don’t have that list, sorry. My sense of it is that the number of Protestant denominations is probably in the hundreds; I certainly don’t think it’s as high as 33,000.
Does the Catholic Church read the Romans Road?
I hear about this from the Baptists, but it’s not actually in the Bible, and I’ve never seen it used anywhere else than in the Baptist church.
How about reading about being born again?
We talk about that in relationship with Baptism.
Jesus being the Cornerstone? How about Jesus saying that NOBODY goes to the Father but by Him?.
We talk about that all the time.
(contradicting Maryology)
I don’t think you really know what we believe about Mary. We certainly don’t think that she is a substitute for Christ. :nope: But she is definitely our biggest hero of the faith.
