i have read many threads and can’t find the answer. is fasting required everyday during lent? and going without mean is only on fridays right? sorry. i’m new at this.

Since I am Eastern Catholic and our fasting rules are a bit more stringent, I found ‘puzzleannie’s’ post on another thread for you. It is really a good short but sweet explnation.

Adults between 18 and 59 are expected to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, 2 small meals, 1 larger meal nothing in between meals except liquids. Abstinence, refraining from meat of warm blooded animals or poultry is for all those over 14, required on Ash Wed. and all Fridays of Lent. No one who is pregnant or has health conditions such as diabetes that make either discipline not advisible is required to follow these disciplines. Check the parish bulletin from last Sunday or your diocesan website for the rules in your diocese. We work on the attitude: humility, obedience and penance which are supposed to be the aims of the discipline. Also we do it with joy and without grumbling and without a lot of discussion. forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=135146

I am posting this from Catholic Culture. You have to be member to see this so I thought I would include it here.
Fasting and Mortification
We must fulfill the minimum requirements of the Church for fasting and abstinence. But there are other forms of abstaining and fasting. We must remember that when we do “give up” something, it should be completely, not saved for later. The money we save from not buying a cup of coffee should be given as a donation to charity. The time we don’t watch TV should be spent doing spiritual reading, or family time. Below are some examples of other forms of fasting or abstaining:
Refrain from complaining, gossiping, grumbling or losing one’s temper.
Abstain from favorite drinks, desserts or foods.
Eat less at meals, or eat fewer snacks between meals;
Fast extra days in Lent besides Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Eat without complaining.
Make simple meals, that are less appealing to the sense of taste.

We do not fast on Sundays. Only if you want to.

Since you are new to this sort of stuff you might want to become a member so you can check out their whole lent site.👍

Sundays and Solemnities are never days of fasting and/or abstinance

Fasting is REQUIRED Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Some Catholics decide, for various reasons, to fast the 40 days of Lent anyhow.

Abstinance is REQUIRED every Friday in Lent. That means no meat. Fish, dairy products, and eggs are OK

Some Catholics decide, for various reasons, to abstain every Friday of the year.

Ease into fasting and abstinance slowly. No need to overdo it. One should feel hungry, but not weak or debilitated.

In my case, I talked it over with my Physician who gave me some guidlines to follow.

Hope this helps
