Would looking at a woman inappropriately on TV be a mortal sin?

Gen. not unless you carried into a physical action and response. It would be a serious venial sin. Keep in mind that all sins can be forgiven-absolutions through confession-per your priest. If I am incorrect someone will chime in. Peace.

In the past, I have seen men and women in all their perceived naked glory and without lust or thought. It was my ‘work-job.’ If you respond to lust or act upon it, then it becomes a sin, even if it is only on TV. I guess that is why I prefer PBS.

As in with lust or with (deliberate/consented) impure desire, yes. It is gravely sinful to act for the purpose of, or to deliberately consent to, sexual pleasure except in its proper context in marriage.

Attraction is of course normal, but temptation to lust and to impure actions must be resisted. For some this will mean avoiding certain media.

Venial sin is venial sin. There is no serious venial sin.

There is no serious venial sin.
I believe there are.
All sins of grave matter are by definition serious even if culpability is suspected to be mitigated.
If one is conscious of such serious sins they are best brought to confession - one should not trust one’s own judgement of culpability alone when it comes to serious sins.

There are not. Venial sins are venial sins none of which separate us from God.

Fr. Z: Am I obliged to receive communion? Liturgy and Sacraments
It has been established that the Canon in question does not speak of “mortal sin”. It says “grave sins”. You say JPII said they were “practically the same”. Most people understand that to mean they are in fact different but for lay persons they should treat them as the same 95% of the time. This subtle theological issue looks like the 5% time. Further, if they are to be treated the same what does that actually mean? Does it mean we should think of “mortal sins” as “venial sins of grave matte…

Inappropriately says it all,if meant in a sexual way then yes a mortal sin.

Catechism
2525 Christian purity requires a purification of the social climate. It requires of the communications media that their presentations show concern for respect and restraint. Purity of heart brings freedom from widespread eroticism and avoids entertainment inclined to voyeurism and illusion.

2528 “Everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Mt 5:28).

1862 One commits venial sin when, in a less serious matter, he does not observe the standard prescribed by the moral law, or when he disobeys the moral law in a grave matter, but without full knowledge or without complete consent.

LUST is one of the seven deadly sins.

ENVY - also.

(Inappropriately = Sinfully)
