Sometimes at our Saturday 6pm Vigil we don’t have an Altar Server. At the Preparation of the Gifts the Priest adds the water and wine into the Chalices and because he has no Altar Server to carry the left over wine to the Credence table he simply places the left over wine in the crystal decanter on the side of the Altar itself.
My question is, is that wine consecrated and unknowingly changed into the precious blood? Until recently I would have said no myself, however I have recently found out that that only one Chalice has to contain a drop of water and the consecration would still be valid to extra vessels not containing a drop of water.
I’d hate to think that unknowing. precious blood was simply being taken back into the Sacristy after Mass and handled as a decanter of wine.
Please advise.
