Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it. ~Andre Gide
I struggle with a willingness to defend the “Truth” as I see it…fearful that my perception is faulty. I’d rather think in terms of likelihoods and possibilities. I.E. I prefer to say “The Catholic Church is very likely the One True Church” rather than say “It IS the One True Church”. I think the first sentence acknowledges my limited ability to seek the Truth and know I have found it but still reveals my own sense of certainty, while the other sentence seems pompous and over-confident.

However, I think the Church expects us to evangelize in a tone of certainty.

What say you all?

Some truths we can and should know and be certain about. Is there any doubt that water is, by its nature, wet? or that gravity effects all within its bounds? or that we need oxygen to live? This is the same question as is God real? If God is real, how do we know him but for what is revealed by him?

There are uncertainties within the Catholic faith – such as the legitimacy of miracle x or y, or vision b or q. But the Catholic faith, at is core, is like the air we breath – necessary, else we die.

I guess, in reply to Andre, one could ask, “What’s the point of seeking unless there’s truth to be found-and acknowledged once found?” I believe the CC is the one true Church after years of running down this trail and that-it’s been a rather hard course. OTOH, I appreciate the humility to recognize that we’re limited in our abilities to know supernatural truths with absolute certainty-now we know in part, looking as through a dim reflection, to paraphrase 1Cor 13:12.
