So I went to confession this morning. I was feeling a little sheepish for having to confess the same sins over and over again. Nonetheless, confess them I did, and before I had even started my penance, I blew it again!!! :banghead:

You would think that the effects of the sacrament would last a LITTLE longer, but no, I seem to be completely unable to control myself sometimes. What is wrong with me???

I can’t wait to hear the answer to this (what’s wrong with me?) so I can figure out what MY problem is!
I’d say your problem is your human, just keep trying.

Yep, pretty normal to repeat the same sins. The good news is, you do recognize your weakness and you do want to overcome it.

Try to learn from that experience. Be extra cautious and vigilant about not commiting that sin. Most of all pray. Keep asking God to help you to stop this sin and pretty soon, you’ll change your behavior…Take Care…

You have trained yourself to sin in that way for who knows how many years you cannot expect to overcome years of habit in a few days, persevere that is all God asks, despair at ever managing to overcome your sins on the other hand comes from the devil to try and keep you separated from God and should be driven away as swiftly as possible.

Go to confession again as soon as possible and keep praying and keep trying, it can be done you just have to ask the Father for it more.

A story:
A priest was praying one day before the Blessed Sacrament. “O, Lord,” he said, “please give me patience, and help me to control my anger!”
He finished praying and walked out of the church, where he immediately ran into a parishioner who had a habit of getting his goat. Within seconds the priest was yelling at the man!
He went back to the chapel and prayed again for patience. He again left and got about ten steps dwon the street when another parishioner approached him with some complaints and “suggestions”! He uttered words that had her running for cover, and again ran back to the chapel and beseeched the Lord. “Dear God, I pray and pray, and yet I can’t even make it to the rectory! Why won’t you help me!?”
At this point, clear as a bell he heard the voice of God, “My son, you keep praying for patience; I keep sending you practise!”

That’s funny…I just sent my dh an email telling him he should never ask God to make him a more patient person because God will honor that request with opportunities to exercise that virtue!!

It’s just so frustrating for me to have blown it so quickly. I appreciate the responses, though. Nice to know I’m not alone in this. I guess I could look on the bright side…it does keep me humble!!! 😛

You are definitely not alone in this. Knowing that you goofed up comes from the graces of the sacrament. Like you said, it keeps us humble. We are all in this together and God knows us better than we know ourselves. I’ve beat myself up over this same issue and now I realize that my firm purpose of amendment is strong but my flesh is weak. I work on a balance but I know that it is when I am weak that I am strong. Why? Because, as Saint Paul states, when we are weak we hang on to Christ and most of us will find ourselves continaully clinging to Him for strength.

Keep up the good work and keep me in your prayers…teachccd 🙂

Not alone? If somebody told me that they never repeated a sin once they’d confessed it, I’d wonder if they weren’t struggling with the sin of lying to make themselves look good!😃

In charity, it is possible. In reality, I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t struggle with it to some degree or another.
