Is there one? I mean, a hand-missal type, for personal use. I imagine demand is quite low, but I’m wondering if such a thing exists. Anyone know?
Oh, haha, no, I’m familiar enough with those. I mean a Latin missal, not a Latin-English missal. And not an altar missal (example) either, since those are expensive and bulky, but one suitable for personal use. That’s why I imagine there’s pretty much no demand for them, but I figure if there’s one to be had, someone here will know about it.If you can find a SUNDAY missal they’ll be cheaper than the larger sixty buck ones from angelus/baronius etc.
A good source for used missals at reasonable prices appears to be ebay.
How about 25.00 + 3 bucks shipping from a non-profit org ?Is there one? I mean, a hand-missal type, for personal use. I imagine demand is quite low, but I’m wondering if such a thing exists. Anyone know?
$155?EDIT : ok, I see you want a Latin only,
Listening and reading are two different things. Both are valuable. If you are fluent enough in Latin to understand it, why read along? Why not just listen the Mass?
Because some of us don’t want to walk around with some translations of the truth? If you are wanting to read along with the Priest’s Latin prayers, then what’s wrong with having a Latin-English missal and just reading the Latin column?
Well, unfortunately you can’t really very much of the Latin at a TLM. Most of it is silent, and and even for the things that are done out loud, generally I couldn’t understand what was being said even if were in English: no one’s able to make out the words of the Gradual, for instance, or the Epistle chanted towards the back wall. But then, I’ve never been a guy who could make out all the words of rap songs or whatever, so maybe some people are a lot better at that sort of thing that I.If you are fluent enough in Latin to understand it, why read along? That’s funny – it’s a public-domain text, after all. You’d think you could print it for twenty bucks.I have such a missal. I see them periodically in the listings of the used booksellers to which I suscribe. However, they do typically run more than the hand missals in terms of cost. The one that I have I paid $85 for–and that was in 1985!
One idea is to download a PDF file of the MR, scale it to the desired size, and print it locally. OTOH, that could end up being as expensive as buying one, what with the cost of paper, (anything other than standard letter or legal is both hard to find and rather expensive), and the prohibitive cost of ink (or toner, depending on the kind of printer), not to mention the time involved in duplexing. That’s funny – it’s a public-domain text, after all. Crutch is a good word for it.I am jealous that you are fluent enough in Latin. I’m working on mine, but I still need the vernacular “crutch.”![]()
