Dear Michael,
Certainly we can pour out our hearts to Mary, our Mother. Her Immaculate Heart is longing to enfold us! Mary is even more loving than our earthly mothers are or were for Mary is “full of Grace”. She is God’s highly favored one and Mary’s delight is to bring her children closer to Her Son.
Mary’s words at Cana to the servants at the Wedding, are words we need to hear: “Do whatever He tells you.” Catholics need to keep in mind that while Mary does present our petitions to her Son and He delights in receiving our love and our needs through her, we also are called to grow in our relationship with Him as well. We need to listen to His Word given to us in Scripture so we can ponder as Mary did, and do God’s Will as Mary did on this earth.
Today’s Gospel reminds us that we have been given much ( especially in our Baptism and all the sacraments we have received.) God wants us all to grow in holiness. He wants us all to be fruitful. The First Reading from proverbs can be seen as a “Prefigure” of the Church, the Bride of Christ".
Mary is given to us as Mother and Model for the Church. We do well in honoring Mary as our Mother and we also need to keep listening to Jesus as she did, keeping all He said, pondering in our hearts, in order to do His Will as Mary did. Please let us pray for one another, for the Church and for all those in most need of God’s Mercy.
