On the calendar for this week is a Requiem Mass. I am lost as to what readings would be for that day. This is still pretty new to me and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A Requiem Mass is a Mass for the Dead. What sort of Requiem is it? Is it for a funeral, or an anniversary, or just because someone has requested it, etc.?

AJV…I don’t know exactly…except that it is for the daily Mass so it isn’t a funeral. Thank you.

If it is someone’s funeral in the EF, the Epistle should be 1st Thessolonians 4:13-18. The Gospel is St. John 11:21-27. Some of the other requiem Masses in the EF appear to take the readings from the 3rd Mass of All Souls Day. If that is the case, the Lesson is from the Apocalypse (last book of the BIble): 14:13. The Gospel is St. John 6:51-55.

Whoa! Thank you…I think I need to jot this down. I appreciate everyones’ help.👍

If it a Mass for a person in commemoration of the 3, 7th or 30th day after his/her death, then the reading is as preV2tradcath wrote earlier (Epistle: 1st Thess. 4:13-18. Gospel:St. John 11:21-27.)

If it is an anniversary Mass for a non-priest, then it is 2 Mac. 12:43-46 and John 6:37-40

If it is just a Mass offered for someone, not related to an anniversary, burial or day of death, then as preV2tradcath wrote Apoc 14:13, St. John 6:51-55.

Thanks AJV…hopefully the priest will “fill us in” before Mass starts.😉
