Do nuns, especially those that don’t wear a habit where a ring on their wedding finger?

I’m far from being able to become a nun but I would like to wear something that quickly lets people know I am not “single and looking”. I am single but celibate.

I have heard of such a thing as a “chastity” ring but I am not really interested in broadcasting my sex life or lack thereof. I would like to have a ring that is a personal symbol to me of my dedication to the lord while at the same time letting potential inquirers know I’m not available.

I was thinking of a small and simple wedding type band with a cross inscribed on it?

Any thoughts?

If you want a beautiful ring, I know of one that I bought myself. It has “Jesus” inscribed on it with a little dove depicting the Holy Spirit. I bought it from a Christian jeweler online. It’s real sterling silver, so it doesn’t tarnish. It wasn’t very expensive either.

Then there was another one that I really loved that was a bit more. It was a sterling silver ring with a heart and a cross in the center. It is very feminine.

They have other rings too on faithrings.com. Hope this helps! 🙂

LOL, you know me Poor Clare. 🙂 I used to be “CarmeliteGirl25.” But I think St. Francis got a hold of me and won’t let me go, and why would I want him to? I’m reading so many things about him that bring me deeper in to understanding the Franciscan spirituality and I am like 99% sure that I want to pursue a vocation quest with the Franciscan Sisters of Renewal. Of course, I am constantly praying about it. I love St. Francis so much! 😃

…Ok, I think I have officially hijacked this thread! LOL!

'Tis ok 🙂 I like to hear about your journey and will pray for you also.

thanks for the links too 🙂

TeresaAnn,
  • Sorry I had not replied to your original question. [Since you had said you had found your answer]… I actually work… (well OK after Thursday the term would be “worked”) in a religious gift shop, Here in Los Angeles wearing a religious ring as a symbol of commitment is not so very far fetched as it may seem. I am glad you received information on your journey and wish you well.*

*Yes I have been praying for you these last few months. I do hope you will find your home. As you most likely have already found out there are many many many books on Franciscan spirituality out there. I do hope you will find the community that will be the right fit. In the meanwhile if I might be of any help ( I am not sure if you knew that in my previous community I was vocations director?) Do let me know.
Blessings of Peace and All Good!*
