And when I mean rough, I mean rough. I drew this in just 20 minutes. I looked up some photos and collected some data as to what a Maronite of the 12th century might look like and well, here it is:

According wikipedia
wikipedia:
the Maronites, as dhimmis, were required to wear black robes and black turbans, so as to be easily identified; they were also forbidden to ride horses.
I think I have it right…I’m open to all constructive and respectable criticism. Tell me what ya’ll think of my 12th century Maronite. Hopefully I didn’t leave too much to the imagination…😃

What features of the picture identify him as a Maronite, as opposed to another dhimmi subject of the caliph?

Only Maronites wore black. Granted, there are still some things I’m not sure of. But, considering I got my information from second-hand resources and drew it in under 20 minutes, it’s the best I could do. I tried looking up the robes of the Maronites at the time, but they simply weren’t available. And if you look closely at his right hand, you’ll see a crucifix. Maybe that’ll help, maybe not.

Just throwing it out there.

Nice drawing. May I ask what crossed your mind to draw it? 😉

Okay, please draw a 16th century Bishop with a pretty Roman chasuble please!

Very simple:
I love Maronites. 👍
I’ve spent years drawing Samurai, Knights, Dragons, creatures of the unknown and scary monsters, and occasional anime (Too easy, I moved on to harder stuff). What I’ve never managed to draw was a Maronite of the past. This was my first.

I was hoping a Maronite on here would tell me if there was something wrong with it. Perhaps a wrong turban, or maybe the wrong robes. Would have greatly helped me on future occasions.

I’m sorry man, I have no clue what that is.
I can’t even find any information on it. I’d be working solely on imagination. And although it’s lovely to have imagination, I can’t exactly rely on it. May as well make the Bishop an elf, with fire coming out his ears. 😃

A Bishop with a big Roman Chasuble down to his shins!

Like this:
I might try drawing one actually, even though I’m terrible at drawing.
