A sad sign of the times?

I have had my own experiences with Modernist priests who rebel against the teachings of the magisterium. Our former parish pastor did not like the church’s teaching on contraception and tried to inculcate his views in the congregation. Then, one time, a visiting priest actually told me in the confessional that I should commit sexual immorality (of course, he didn’t feel that it was “immoral”).

They’re out there, so beware.

God Bless you Fergal. You know the teachings of the Church and that we must follow Her in all teachings of faith.

It brought tears to my eyes to read your post. How very sad for that Priest. How very frightening for others he meets in the confessional or elsewhere. He is dispensing heresy. He is encouraging the faithful to follow the world and not God. It’s so so sad.

I left my Parish for the same reasons. Not so blatant as yours. My pastor (definitely ordained in the 60’s) told us that missing Mass was okay and not a mortal sin. He also says that going to Confession is no longer a teaching of the Church and therefore not necessary. He holds a general reconciliation Mass and that covers everyone who attends. He’s a very nice man but very liberal. After the consecration, he sits down and waits while the Extraordinary Ministers distribute the Host and Precious Blood. He also told my sister that using contraception was okay.

She and I both left that parish and now attend one further away but one who follows the teachings of the Church.

But I always pray for those parishioners of my old Parish. I feel awful for them that they are being encouraged to sin, and it’s a Priest who is encouraging them.

You are strong in your faith and God has blessed you with healing and a child. Nothing more matters then obediance to God.
