The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) have scientists that are priests Vatican Observatory.
So does the Order of Preachers the Dominicans these two religious orders have priests that practice science with phd’s

Keep in mind that parish priests have off time too. Between the Liturgy of the Hours, Masses, and various sacraments, they can do what they like (as long as it isn’t scandalous :P), and that could include writing a book or working on a mathematical proof. Not having a wife and kids can have its benefits
Completley true! 🙂
First things first, make sure God is calling you to the priesthood. If He has other plans for you, it may be much easier to look onto science, and saves you the “trouble” of possibly suffering through the priest’s life (it’s quite the game changer for your life, not everyone is really fit for the bill).

If He is guiding you to be a priest, things can get a bit tricky, but the first thing you can do is study science in college and what not, to have confortable grounds when you’re entering the seminary/monastery or wherever God is telling you to go. Then… it’s up to you to try and have scientific work in place just as you wish and fit it with your vocation. Mendel used the pea plants in his monastery, for instance. Others manage to teach in universities, gaining a place where they can do research, like Lemaître. But if God knows that your interest in science can be used as a personal talent, pray and He’ll lead you to the right place. Outside of praying, try to ask others how you can do that.

Good luck with it, I’ll be praying for you to be enlightened on what your vocation is, and how can it be fulfilled! 👍

Hello, I am a high school senior and currently going through discernment. I love the priesthood and I love the Church, but I also love science with a passion. Is there a way for me to become both?
Father George Coyne is a Priest in the Jesuit Order and has been til recently the Head of the Vatican Observatory, He is a leading scientist. a brilliant man in his field, gives lectures and open about his opinions even if sometimes contradictory what is commonly held as truth among Catholics.(i,e He does not believe in a soul !! )
On the other hand you had Fr Robert Spitzer…another Jesuit and a leading physic in todays world has just wriitn a book for the proof of Gods existence Through Science…BTW…he believes in a soul !
