I typed this into youtube and this video came up…the protestant is quoting scripture…but tha catholic is not comeing back with any evidence for the faith…i just thought id share this with you.

It’s from a series called “God or the Girl”, which tracked some prospective seminarians and their journey to seminary. As a side note, none of them made it to seminary.

When I first watched this segment, I was jumping out of my skin wanting to refute the very simple errors the “Fundamentalist Christian” was making. I would have loved to have been there…

God Bless,

Actually, I thought one of them did make it into the seminary - the young man from Virginia who went on the mission trip to central America.

I, too, was quite frustrated with the way the Catholic in that video clip didn’t know how to refute the very basic errors made by the Protestant. I was expecting better from a possible seminary candidate.

dude, if thses guys were seminarians they should have been able to at least refute teh age old “mary needed a savior” “one mediator between God and man” arguments

The guys weren’t seminarians - they were lay Catholics considering entering seminary.

There was a thread on the show (in Popular Media, IIRC) where someone who knows Steve (the guy from VA) said that he’s not going to seminary. Feel free to double check me.

Ah, thanks for the update. Sad, really. I wish he’d stuck with it.

10 to 1, the potential seminarian is a cradle catholic and is not knowledgable of the biblical basis of the faith.

That is where our CCD and RCIA structure needs a revamping. All needs to be taught from both sources. A 50/50 split.

AGREED!! I haven’t watched the video yet (just about to though), but I agree that most parishes have a poor CCD program and usually a below par RCIA as well. As a convert, I found a great RCIA program at our Cathedral, but the one my DH when through at a different parish was extremely sad, and one in which I was a sponsor last year (at a third parish) wasn’t much better.
On top of that consider that converts are usually much more knowledgeable about the Faith that cradle Catholics, which gives real insight to exactly how poor our CCD and Adult Faith Formation (for those parishes that even offer it) really are.
It’s sad when you look at Protestant churches who don’t have anywhere near the fullness of Truth, but their members would not dream of missing Adult Sunday School. Catholic Churches can hardley even get anyone to show up, that is if there is even a class in the first place!

Sorry for the rant… Now back to the real topic…

Okay, so I just watched the video and it truly is sad that the young man couldn’t counter this protestant’s accusations. I really don’t think he (the Catholic guy) had ever encountered anyone like that before.

I couldn’t help but watch this other video on there that was just laughable. Notice that song they play at the end…

I have never met in person a Catholic who could answer any question I ask about the Catholic Faith. Even the priest I used to go to weekly for counseling… he would just yell at me that the man who Baptized me was going to hell. (As if He’d ever met him!) I have found people on this forum to be an exception. It makes me sad that so many Catholics don’t seem to know what the Church they claim to be a part of teaches.

I think as Catholics you all should be VERY concerned about whatever programs are available in your Parish to teach you and your fellow Catholics. I don’t even ask hard questions of the ones who I’ve talked with.

That was really cheesy, I love the part where the EV says “God loves everyone, He loves me, and to a lesser extent you”. LOL that’s awfully presumptuous to claim to know that God loves him more.

This has inspired me to get more active in my youth group. Three years of being Protestantish sure has given me a lot of perspective, and I’d like to help my parish out in this respect.

We’ll see…

Ok, that was sad…not only was the fundamentalist lousy but the Catholic didnt have anything to say, at least quote James 2:24 or something.

I hope there are videos out there with some lay Catholic apologists in them, are there on youtube? If not, someone please make a video where the Catholic takes a fundy to the cleaners.

Remember that this was a T.V. SHOW where they could have easily edited out his responses to make him seem more ignorant than he really was.

This video is definitely edited out. The Catholic Church has the answers to all those questions… and as the “Fundamentalist” said, “It is in my opinion”.

I have a video by John Ankerberg where it seems that a Fundamentalist takes Fr. Pacwa to the whipping shed in a debate but I can clearly see the video edited out to eliminate Fr. Pacwa’s responses.

I watched that other video there, that was hilarious!! I didn’t recognize (or understand) the song at the end.

“Richard! Richard!! I wanna be saved!!”

I’d LOVE to meet that dude. I’d have him chasing his scriptural tail in a flash.

One thing that gets me is this “niceness” mess where we act like we are afraid to be “awefensive” and lay out the facts and let the Holy Spirit do His work on them.

I have found that the vast majority of “witnessing” a-Cs don’t seem to really give a rip if they offend us by talking their smack about our most holy faith, and so I just smile and keep refuting them until they either say they are wrong or decide that they really need to get somewhere.

It also ruins their whole day that a Catholic knows his way around the Word of God.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That one’s a satire, Michael; watch it again. It is awesome!
