A sin to pay to see a movie with nudity?

I think that depends on the reason to see the movie in question. It would also depend on how nude is the nudity–so to speak. Also does the moviegoer know of the nudity before seeing the film, or just learn later? If one’s going because of the nudity, then certainly it represents a sin. If it’s inconsequential to the movie as a whole, then that’s a different situation*. “Schindler’s List*” had nudity, but that doesn’t make it a bad film. The nudity was used to represent the horrendous crimes against the Jews. There was a Saint Francis movie from the 1970s that also had nudity, but it’s inconsequential to the movie’s message. So…depends on the situation as a whole.

There are some people for whom no nudity is erotically stimulating.

There are some people for whom some nudity is not erotically stimulating. For example, the nudity in Beowulf didn’t do a thing for me, not that I expected it to.

Then there are some people who can’t look at a woman in a chador without getting stimulated.

It all depends on the individual and on the context of the nudity.

(That doesn’t help much, does it 😃 )

I agree. And is it different if you pay to see a movie with nudity or see it for free? 😉

Not really. It’s the seeing that gets people into trouble, not the paying for it. One could always pay to see the movie and close his eyes during the naughty bits.

For me yes. I know that if I see the movie with nudity, I can look away or do something so I do not sin. The question here for me was it wrong to contribute to an industry that puts nudity in films.

I just saw a show on IFC about “simulated” vs. “non-simulated” i.e. the real deal sex in film.

One french filmaker stated that if you have to ask the question whether it’s art or pornography, the (default) answer is art.

What they’re doing is dressing up pornography by building up a “story” around filming live sex. Sad. Even worse was the excuses used to justify this practice in filmaking. 😦

The Sixth commandment forbids all words looks and actions contrary to holy purity. The Ninth forbids all impure thoughts and desires willfully entertained or concented to.

It is a sin to look at nude pictures no matter what the reason.

Mayo,

Please make sure you stay away from the Vatican. The Sistine Chapel has all sorts of nude pictures.

…and you’ll never be able to study anything having to do with medical subjects.

So stay out of art museums.

Quit picking on the guy. He obviously meant looking at nude pictures to become sexually stimulated.

Wow.

No. That’s not what he obviously meant. Not when he ended his post with “no matter what the reason.”

“Contrary to holy purity”
“Impure thoughts and desires”

To know what he means it’s good to read the whole post. Else, you end up taking things out of context.

Is it a sin to look at this?

It is a SIN to look at people, nude or not, with lust.

It is NOT a sin to look at people, nude or not, without lust.

The sin is not in seeing skin. There is nothing wrong with the human body that makes looking at it intrinsically evil. The sin is in looking LUSTFULLY at others in order to become aroused.

Now, looking at pictures or a movie that is pornographic (i.e. designed to make people aroused, not simply depicting the human body) or near-pornographic is putting yourself in a near occasion of sin at least, especially if you know you are prone to lust. You have to know yourself and your weaknesses/strengths.

THanks Markstorm.
You got the point

What I quoted from the Sixth and Ninth commandments is how it was exactly worded in the Catholic Catechesm in Ireland when I went to school there. What I said is what we were taught. You can go on the Web and put in Nudeity and the Catholic Church and you will find it in there that it really is not right to look at Nude Pictures or Nude Art.
Doctors are desencetised as students by working on dead people so that when they are Doctors they do not see the Nude body the same way as the general population. does.
Remember when we die there is no justafication or ratafication. WE did it or we did not.

Life is short Eternity is forever.
