You may want to explore your desire, ladybri77, by participating in Vocation Discernment retreats. By the process of elimination you can approach your attractions by talking to someone who can help you discern and hear other people who can give you some lights. Religious life is a lifelong process. Knowledge of yourself comes piecemeal, through the ups and downs of living the life. Finding a religious community and joining it is only a small part of the whole process of our spiritual journey. As St. Augustine says: “You created us for yourself, O God, and our hearts are restless until it rests in you.” Even if one has already consecrated oneself to God by the vows of religion, one is still not fully content, we still long for that full union with God. So I guess what I’m saying is that do not confuse your desire for God with a specific call to Religious life.

Thank you, Sr. Helena. I pretty much have put it aside for now. Just seeing what God will do in my life. Every once in awhile the desire comes up, but I’ve pretty much accepted the fact that maybe God wants me to be married someday. I haven’t been asked on a date in years, so I probably have to get the wrong core beliefs about myself corrected first so I won’t depend on anyone else to validate me.

Thank you for sharing your vocation story! It is beautiful…I feel the same way now in my life when I see a Sister, I feel drawn in. I have been discerning for about 3 years now. I am in a Catholic College finishing my freshman year studying Theology. I am trying to stay in contact with the Dominican Order who started our University by going over for dinner and discussion once a month. At least this way I can stay connected and the vocation director here keeps me in the loop when things are going on.

I’m planning on really focusing in on a specific order down the road and finding an order than suites me that I will enter come 5 years or so after I graduate.

I wish you God’s aid in your discernment. I know from my experience how impatient I became. I’m glad you have people helping you.👍

This is my intention for this thread. I hope more Religious out there would also take me up on my invitation to share their vocation stories.🙂

Thank your for your story Sister Helena! I will be back to tell my story. I have used up my computer time for today. Other responsibilities call me now. I will just tell you that I made the reverse journey: from active to contemplative!
