A special priest, 30th anniversary of ordination

My confessor, newly appointed as Pastor of a church where I lead the music ministry on Saturday, is an especially saintly man. I don’t think I’ve ever met a priest like this in my entire life. His presence in my life is an enormous gift of God. He is celebrating his 30th anniversary of ordination in September and I would like to give him a special gift. NO liquor (I don’t think such a gift is appropriate for a priest), I want to give him something that he can look at and remember that, to me and all in this parish, he is a literal God send. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thank you.
 
Albeit from Eastern tradition, an icon of a favorite / patronal saint or feast day / event might be a very appropriate gift.
 
You could buy him a violet stole. These are used in confession and are many times separate from the priest’s set of violet vestments. Many times they have a cord connecting the two sides and are a bit wider, sometimes called a “pastoral stole.” Often they are more richly ornamented than regular stoles.

This is not cheap. However, you can perhaps pool your money with other parishioners.

It’s 338 Euros. That has VAT on it, they might take that off since you are an American customer. It is expensive, but it is from one of the best makers there is, and it is quite beautiful and will last a very long time.

The reason I recommend violet is because this item is intended to be worn as an outer layer, and the only time I can think of in which it would be appropriate to regularly wear a stole as an outer layer is in confession.

Or, if someone is handy with a needle and thread (and a sewing machine) he or she could make a pattern (either from a borrowed stole or from a good photo), get some fabric and ornamentation (doesn’t have to be too fancy), and produce a stole to suit.

Also. one doesn’t have to go to Barbiconi or Gamarelli to have something decent. For a far less hefty price tag (around $155), CM Almy has some things that would seem to be quite suitable.

Is this place in Rome and, if so, can you give me the street address (I’ll be in Europe in October)? I don’t understand Euros at all…still working on that one. Also, a Deacon pointed out to me yesterday that the closet of another Pastor where I am a Eucharistic Minister is filled with very expensive garments, etc., gifts during his 25 years of service, and suggested the priest I am thinking of has beautiful vestments already. He thought a financial contribution to a cause close to the heart of this priest made in his honor might be appropriate and there’s a child in that parish who is struggling with leukemia and for whom lots of benefits and fund raisers have been given. Perhaps donating to her, through him, would be better?
 
If there is a Eastern Church with a gift shop, you might fine some thing nice and not over priced. One year I got the paster a key chain with a Icon on it plus a Icon of Staint John the Aposile in his role as theacher (it was about 3 by 4 incvhs). just an idea. :newidea:

FYI, there are several other, much smaller, houses on the Boro Pio, quite close to St Peter’s Square, which are generally far less expensive than the more famous ones. One in particular (that a priest-friend of mine has used and found very satisfactory) comes to my but I cannot for the life of me remember the name. :o IIRC, however, it’s on the right-hand side as you enter the Borgo from the Square, and is just a few doors down.
