Given the fact that many of us outside the Catholic Church do not consider it to be a different religion (or Gospel) - and that (as I understand it) the Catholic Church considers us to be “separated brethren” - may I suggest that you consider establishing a forum for discussion of other Christian churches?

I don’t think that you put us in the same category with Mormonism or the Jehovah’s Witnesses, so why put us in the same forum?

I suppose because it’s an umbrella for any non-Catholic religion. I guess it isn’t specific to non-Roman Catholic Christians.

I just don’t read the Mormon or JW threads lol.

I think the main point is that any trinity believing non-Catholic Christian is still part of the same religion, so I agree with the original poster. A non-Catholic Christian forum would make things way less congested in this forum. Then this forum would just be used for discussions about JW’s, LDS, Hindu, Islam, etc.

Hi PastorVW,

We used to have a sub-forum called “Eastern Christianity”. But it was overwhelmed by Orthodox, and there wasn’t enough discussion about Eastern Catholicism. I think the organisers of Catholic Answers wanted the Orthodox to associate more with the other Catholic sub-forums.

And so, if we have a sub-forum for other Christians, you can be sure that other Christians will not get involved in other Catholic sub-forums. :twocents:

This is catholic or christian religious site. This is giving more information about roman catholic churches. I give a suggestion for this forum to publish the more information about othe religious churches.

I think they should make two forums: one should be called “Apostate Christianity,” and the other should be called “True Christianity”. The “True Christianity” forum should be reserved exclusively for a discussion of Mormons and Mormonism; and the “Apostate Christianity” forum should be reserved all the rest! 😃

Way back before the great CAF crash there used to be various sub folders in the Non-Catholic Religions forum. CAF tossed them and just made one forum. Time and money were the reasons given for the consolidation.

I started a poll not long ago (Orthodox and the “Non-Catholic Religions Forum”) asking:

Orthodox posters, do you participate less on this forum because it’s called the “Non-Catholic Religions Forum” than you would if it were called the “Non-RC Religions Forum”? (E.g. Do you not like to participate on this forum because you fear it might look like you’re identifying yourselves as not “Catholic”?)

Perhaps a similar poll could be done with respect to
the fact that many of us outside the Catholic Church do not consider it to be a different religion
But in any case, the bottom line is that Catholic Answers doesn’t represent the Catholic Church (I’m sure there’s a disclaimer somewhere that says that, but I don’t feel like hunting it down) and they’re free to organize their sub-fora as they see fit.

That makes sense to me. It does seem strange to talk to trinitarians in the same forum as discussing Mormonism. I wondered about that too when I first came.

Clearly Catholic Answers has every right to set up this forum any way they wish. On the other hand, Catholic Answers has always been very respectful of other Christians and even other churches. Speaking as one of the “separated brethren”, I simply suggested that placing other Christian churches in the same category with non-christian religions is inconsistent with Catholic Answers gracious approach to people like me.

Just my .02 worth…

I’m not sure what they mean by non-catholic. I have come to mean they really mean non-roman catholic. Many other churches are catholic, in that they are apostolic in nature and universal.

I think the relationship between the “Eastern Catholicism” forum and the “Non-Catholic Religions” forum can be understood better if you read this post.

Yes. The “Non-Catholic” in the name of this forum should be understood to mean “Non-RC”.

That and creating 30,000 and counting new forums would be extremely time consuming.

There is only one Catholic Church, there is only one Church, which by definition is apostolic.

To claim you don’t know what we mean by ‘non-Catholic’ when coming to a Catholic Apolgetics Forums is deliberate ignorance IMO.

I noticed that you describe yourself as “Free Methodist”. What is the difference between that and ordinary Methodist? How many different kinds of Methodists are there?

I sympathize with you and agree with your line of thinking. The problem is that even if a “non-Christian Religions” forum were added, Mormons, JW’s and the like would never use it. Even though we don’t consider those groups to be Christian, they consider themselves to be the ONLY true Christians.

There used to be a board exclusive to Mormonism. Then the apostates and anti-Mormons turned it into a forum of hate, and the moderators decided to shut it down.

I can understand this criticism. So far as I am aware, the emphasis is on ‘Breathren’ not separated so why include them wiht LDS and JW’s?

Maybe it is to enable all to enter debate and discussion

Blessings and peace

I wouldn’t go so far as to say Mormons and JWs would never use such a board.

After all, various non-RC Christians complain about the name “Non-Catholic Religions Forum” (Orthodox and Old Catholics complain about the implication that they aren’t “Catholic”, some Protestants complain about the implication they belong to a different “religion”, and they pretty much all complain about the way they are lumped together with non-Christians) but they participate here nevertheless.

P.S. You may not have intended this, but your post makes it sound like CAF takes greater pains to be considerate toward Mormons and JWs, than they do toward Eastern Orthodox and Protestants. That, I’m almost certain, is not the case. (If it was, I don’t think I would want to participate on CAF.)
