This is God’s temple in heaven, which will come down with Jesus on the Day of Judgment, the heavenly Jerusalem. The earthly Temples were designed to mimic this Temple.
And yes, the Ark in the end of Chapter 11, is the Ark of the Covenant. It hadn’t been seen by the Jews since it was removed from the Temple just prior to the Babylonian invasion when Judah was sent into Exile. It was Ezekiel (or was it Jeremiah?) who removed the Ark and hid it from the Israelites.
It would have been incredible news to Ancient Israel to discover that the Ark had “surfaced” in heaven.

And, of course, the Ark is a Type that pre-figured the Virgin Mary. Hence, the Ark of the Old Covenant is replaced in the Heavenly Temple by the Ark of the New Covenant - Mary. I think the imagery in Ch.'s 11-12 regarding the Ark is that, just as the old Ark has been fulfilled in the new Ark, the Old Covenant has been fulfilled in the New Covenant.
Incidentally, it is the typology of the Ark, which lends emphasis to the Catholic belief that, just as the Ark was brought up into heaven, that Mary was brought up (assumed) into heaven.

Without the presence of the Holy Spirit (which had left the Ark, shortly before it’s removal from the Temple), the Ark is simply a beautifully crafted artifact form the ancient world. It wouldn’t kill any non-Levite who touched it anymore. It would just be a beautiful conversation piece.

Well of course there is. But we are all mediators when we offer up prayers for others. Mary, as part of the Body of Christ, does this also. As do numerous other saints.

I know some downplay this scenario by laughing at the fact that every year some guy with a large stone in his pick-up truck gets run off the temple mount area by security.
But the Jews who are getting ready for a 3rd Temple are far more prepared for it than this. All ready to use, they have the menorah, the priestly costumes, the harps, the tools to handle the sacrifice, etc.
The problem is the sacrifices will not be efficacious becasue of Yeshua’s finished work of his death and resurrection.
But I think God could use the presence of the 3rd Temple to teach the Jews in that time period about how all those things about the Temple pointed to his Son. Just like the writer of Hebrews explained.

The Scripture refered to the Temple destroyed in 70AD.As far as the 3rd Temple goes, scripture does refer to one being present in the tribulation period.
I do not buy that dispensationalist stuff.
