The Holy Father will visit the Marian shrine in Șumuleu on June 1st during his visit to Romania .

The most valuable sacred work of art at the shrine of the Virgin Mary in Șumuleu is the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, carved from lime wood between 1510-1515, by an unknown artist. With a height of 2.27 m, the sculpture is the highest in the world. It represents the “Woman clothed in Sun”

This is the side chapel devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles. The little stylized statue of St. Juan Diego contains a relic, an actual piece of the tilma with the original Guadalupe image from Mexico City.

The icon of Our Lady, Searcher for the Lost. I like the somewhat gangly depiction of Our Lord, indicating the adolescent Jesus in the story of the Finding in the Temple. This icon also reminds me that Our Lady searches for us too, when we go astray.
