I think he’s out of his gourd. God doesn’t call us for five years at a clip. We each have our own vocation and it lasts a lifetime.
:amen:

Five year priests? Five year marriage licenses? Same thing, right?

My father used to talk about the time a neighbor asked him how long he and my mother had been married. Instead of saying “25 years” he said “We took out a 5 year marraige license and have been living in sin for the past 20 years.” I guess this would be the same thing.

Oh, and the neighbor’s reply? A shocked, “But you can’t do that.” (She (1) had no sense of humor, and (2) apparently didn’t know how to add 5 and 20 to come up with 25. My mother thought it was hilarious>)

Defrock doesnt need to be in Code of Canon Law for it not be a legitimate function…its not considered a “PC” word these days…its a word of SHAME, and rightly so.

It is a word used by religious when a Priest is stripped of his duties and functions.

Legitimate means legally proper. How can a penalty be “legitimate” if the law does not provide for it?

Is this a suspension, were the priest is forbidden to celebrate the sacraments but remains a priest or is it dismissal from the clerical state, which means that he is effectively a lay person?

Would these penalties also include excommunication, so that the priest could not receive the sacraments either?
