A U2charist? Episcopalians throw in U2 music with a liturgy

Oh please. Would you get off of the Episcopalians. Maybe they have a darned good reason to be feeling good. I agree that they have their problems but so does the Catholic church and we need not get into those problems do we?
No, they are wrong.

While I don’t believe their Eucharist is nothing more than bread and fermented grape juice, if their church says it is a certain thing, and then to bring in some secular music and treat the Eucharist as if it’s bread and wine leads me to believe other things about what their Hierarchy sees it as. I’m seeing hypocrisy.

I truly hope events like this, and the Archbishop Rowan “Gay service” scandal cause Episcopalians and Anglicans to really think about what happens when you’re cut off from Christ and His Church for so long…

Prayers are with them.

You really have a beef with Episcopalians don’t you. You should be sure to mention your hateful temper the next time you go to confession. If you are so certain that they are wrong and you are right, then what is the issue with your conscience?

One song from a U2charist (the 40th Psalm):
I waited patiently for the Lord
He inclined and heard my cry
He brought me up out of the pit
Out of the mirey clay
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
How long to sing this song
How long to sing this song
How long…how long…how long…
How long…to sing this song
He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps firm
Many will see
Many will see and fear
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
How long to sing this song
How long to sing this song
How long…how long…how long…
How long…to sing this song
Another song, a contrast between Bloody Sunday and Easter:
I can’t believe the news today
I can’t close my eyes and make it go away
How long, how long must we sing this song
How long, how long
'Cause tonight
We can be as one tonight
Broken bottles under children’s feet
Bodies strewn across the dead-end street
But I won’t heed the battle call
It puts my back up, puts my back up against the wall
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday
And the battle’s just begun
There’s many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mother’s children, brothers, sisters torn apart
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday
How long, how long must we sing this song
How long, how long
'Cause tonight
We can be as one tonight
Tonight
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
I’ll wipe your tears away
Wipe your tears away
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday
And it’s true we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink, while tomorrow they die
The real battle is begun
To claim the victory Jesus won
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday

It’s called wine, Andrew. I don’t think even the Catholic Church can say that if wine is used in a Protestant service than it cannot be called wine.

Just at the Catholic Church once saw hypocrisy in the use of a pipe organ in sacred worship? And the Eucharist in a U2charist is treated as the Body and Blood of Christ.

A service reported by the Times whose veracity has now come into question, since it was not covered or reported by any other news service (Fox News could not verify it, and didn’t cover it). One could say, Andrew, that you might be guilty of gossip and here say… (which sounds a lot like heresy)?

Prayers for you, too. Sounds like you need some.

You said sound pretty angry yourself…

So what if he doesn’t like Episcopalians? I’m an Irish Catholic I’m not a huge fan of theirs either. Not everyone has to like each other. Loving your brother is not the same as liking your brother. And yes playing U2 at communion is an embarassement. I’m Catholic and I can admit that liturgical dance is a huge embarassment.

I’ve notice that you take an interest to always conveniently attack me personally, however discreet it may be. Whether it’s my personal opinion or a teaching of the Church. Why is this? Does it offend you that I no longer am a part your strain of Protestantism or any Protestantism at all?

What does the inclusion of U2’s more secular songs have to do with the worship of Christ? None that I can see. They might have had good intentions, but in my opinion, as I stated, it seems entirely “me focused.” It sounds like “Let’s see how good we can feel.”

It would be such an insult to Christ, if His very presence were not enough for them. This is hypothetical, assuming they had a valid Eucharist, which the Church says they do not.

For the record, I love Episcopalians as they are God’s children, but I do not love their religion. I feel that it caters to those who desire to defy Christ, albeit in a way that they fail to realize. This continues to prove the effects of what happens when one is separated long enough from Christ and His Church.

It wasn’t personal - but you were rather flippant with your use of “fermented grape juice.” Why would you say such a thing?

I’m not offended by whatever faith you have been or are now. Where is that coming from?

Don’t understand you now - these were U2’s more religious songs. The 42nd Psalm is not a secular song.

I don’t think anyone felt too good after seeing images of starving children, war-torn country sides, and maimed soldiers of war, Andrew. Nor after praying a litany of repentance and confession.

I’ve been to a U2charist. It’s the exact opposite - to a generation that is very “me” focused, it was very Christ-focused with a world view, confrontations with poverty, famine, and our complacency with such things. On these points, you’re simply wrong, Andrew. Sorry.

Harpazo,

Perhaps you should think before you sling mud at the Anglican Communion/Episcopal Church. I will be the first person to agree that it is wrong to appoint an avowed and unrepetent homosexual into the episcopate.

However, if we are condemned for appointing a gay bishop, I ask how condemned is the Roman Catholic Church for allowing its priests to commit unspeakable acts of pedophilia and child abuse and then for higher ups, including Cardinals, to cover it up! So keep attacking the Episcopal Church for its mistake, but let he who is without sin the cast the first stone. To the best of my knowledge, no Anglican/Episcopal clergy person has shown guilty of abusing young children and abusing their Holy Orders to get away with it!

In my previous post, I was not trying to insult or offend Roman Catholics, merely trying to point that ever church/denomination, since it is made up of fallible human beings, has made its share of mistakes and hasty decisions.

This point has very little to do with the topic at hand. The difference between ordaining openly homosexual people to be clergy and the pedophiliac clergy (which do not exist in the Catholic Church alone) is the fact that in the Episcopal/Anglican community, this is allowed. The Catholic Clergy, many of which have been defrocked, and punished. Any clergyman, regardless of religion that abuses any person for any reason is a sick and disgusting person to me.

The fact is, it has become part of Episcopalian/Anglican doctrine to allow these things to happen (correct me if I’m wrong on the matter). It has never, and will never be a part of Catholic doctrine for Pediophiliac priests. The Catholic Church has openly apologized for such actions and reparations are trying to be made, even though it seems it’s near impossible to do so. Episcopalians and Anglicans on the other hand, to me, pride themselves in ordaining openly Homosexual clergy, the hierarchy permits it and says it’s permissable. You’ll never, ever hear a Catholic priest, bishop, cardinal, patriarch, or Pope say such a thing.
