A valid Eucharist?

Let me just start by stating that no one in my parish likes the priest. He is the biggest hippocrite of a priest. When Katrina hit he refused to drive people from New Orleans to Baton Rouge because he does not like those quote “dirty people”. We have caught him riding around in a muscle shirt in his convertiable, just cruising. Can his Eucharistic blessing and prayer be invalid?

The validity of a sacrament does not in any way depend on the status of the priest’s soul, nor does it depend on how many people like him nor upon what kind of t-shirt he wears.

Is he a validly Ordained priest?

**1. Who’s “we”? And how do you know he was “just cruising”? Has God granted you the ability to see into his heart? I really doubt it.

1. Because the sacraments he celebrates are valid and grace-filled, you should not present yourself for Communion until you get over your judgement of him.**

A valid sacrament requires three things, which are specifically named in regards to the Eucharist:

1. valid matter. The Host must be pure wheat flour and water, with no other significant additives. The Chalice must be pure fermented grape juice, again without significant additives.
2. valid form. The words of consecration (‘this is my body … this is my blood …’) must, in the Latin Rite at least, be pronounced.
3. intent. The priest must intend at least to confect the Eucharist.

Out of charity, and because it’s difficult for an outside observer to tell, it’s safe to presume that #1 and #3 exist unless clear evidence or grave doubt comes to light.

I don’t think anything your priest has done indicates that he has no intent to consecrate when he says Mass.

Hi Sacred Heart, I agree with the other posters replies regarding the validity of the sacrament in mass celebrated by this priest. May I also suggest that you maybe find another parish to attend if it`s possible in your situation? While your assessment of this priest might or not be accurate it seems you will not gain spiritually by continuing to attend mass at this parish as long as you feel this way about him and this is something you need to pray on. Whatever you do you do need to pray for this priest and pray not to harbor feelings against him.
