During the reciting of prayers in a Protestant church, is it appropriate for a person to speak out loud about something he or she would like to have prayed for?

It depends on the denomination you attend and their practices for asking for prayer. My LCMS church does not do that but there is a notebook in the Narthex to write down prayer requests and our pastor includes them when we have our prayer time.
My sister attends a non-denominational/charismatic church that does allow for prayer requests during their service. Her church is relatively small, though so I would think it would be easier to allow that informality.
