A very interesting discussion on the Spalding Book of Mormon theory

Yeah, Indians, war, but that’s about where the similarities end.

Antimormons grasp at all straws that confirm they own bigotry and belief system. Even at the time of Joseph Smith, the Spaulding theory was around. And I sure that Joseph had to answer questions about it. As did Sidney Rigdon. It seems that all passed the test since the theory went no where.

When the manuscript turned up, it was the RLDS church that published it to show the different mentalities of the respective authors.

as much as i admire the mormons, i must say ive had a burning in my bosom. and the truth is this. the book of mormon is not true, and joseph smith was a prophet, after the order of balam. do like alot of the good things they do. and the more i study mormonism the more fascinated i become as to how anybody can believe it. but… millions do. but hey, it has had a positive impact on many of them, so i cant be upset with them. much rather converse with a mormon missionary than say… a baptist! any how, no matter what proof there is that the foundations of mormonism are faulty and built on a house of sand, it wont matter. people are going to continue to believe reguardless of the evidence. God bless all of you.

If you think it is “mean spirited” to stand up against spiritual abuse, I suppose you, as a spiritual abuser, have a right to your beliefs.

The point is: I have no idea what spiritual abuse they may have refered to. The mormon church is just like all other churches. But they do have a strong truth claim with the book of mormon. I think that for many it is overcoming this truth claim that is the obstacle.

Now if the lds church was proven to be fraud, most mormons would be disappointed and maybe go through a tough time. But spiritual abuse would not be a part of the equation. Most exmormons have a tough time with the truth claims because they well know that such claims have not been refuted but they have rejected them. And that makes all the difference.

Many people on the internet who are exmormons know very well, that the exmormon.org is meanspirited. It goes with their turf. And they know that any disagreement with them that favors the lds church will be deleted or the poster will be banned. It is that simple.
