This type of defense would work for any Catholic teaching, but I was thinking of it in regards to Catholic moral teaching, specifically on issues of sexuality. How many times have we heard the same old, “Well, I don’t think the Church is right about _____”? Most of the time that blank is premarital sex or contraception. What I like to do at that point is ask the person if they believe that Jesus is God and that he rose from the dead. Well, of course any Catholic will say, “Yes, of course.” Then I like to say, “So you trust the Church to be right about something as huge as saying that Jesus of Nazareth was and is God and that he died for our sins and rose from the dead? How can the Church be right about something like that and wrong about something like _____?”
I’m sure others use this too, but I thought I’d post it in case it might help anyone.
