A weird little thing I do (I don't think its a sin)

Sometimes when I take a shower or if I have a cup of water. I might pour or splash myself and say Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
I don’t think its a sin, just a weird little thing I do.
What do you think?

I know its strange but I like it when I come into the church and bless myself to remember my baptism vows.
So when I’m around water :splash: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Ok, figured out why. You’re using water, not holy water. Holy water is the proper water to use to reminder yourself of your baptismal vows, because it was with holy water that you were baptized.

Actually, you don’t need to buy holy water – just fill up a bottle at your parish from the holy water font. Some churches even have a dispenser for folks who want to take it home. It’s free!

While the water itself doesn’t have to be holy water, it does have to be at least water and then…

I just want to make sure that its not a mortal/venial sin.
I hope that its a good thing, that would make God happy.

It is a private devotion, not a public liturgical one, so holy water isn’t required. It does not substitute some personal religion for the faith, nor is it a superstitious practice, but celebrates the truth we believe in. It isn’t something that bears teaching officially, like our common prayers and rituals, but it is not an abuse. Rather, it sounds edifying to me.

If Sundays loaned meaning to every day the way that holy water has given meaning to every drop of water that comes the OPs way, we’d all be better off.

Having said that, I think the OP would find that having a holy water font in her home would be a truly lovely thing.

It was at a Catholic Church 2 years ago, but they used a plastic water pitcher. The priest might have blessed it but I’m not sure.

Haha, this reminds me of when I was 7 years old “practicing” to be baptized while I was in the bathtub We belonged to a different church then…

I think they might have meant to say to buy a container, not the holy water itself, and yes buying Blessed objects is simony.

Holy Water is free.

…and as the poster Easter joy said above, you might really enjoy a holy water font in your home, but as for what you do being a sin, I doubt it, you could check with the Priest the next time you go to confession though. (since I’m not one).

Its what they had
I loved the priest at the church, but they were not used to baptizing anyone bigger then a baby lol

Well if it was done by a Catholic Priest in a Catholic Church you can be sure that it was holy water, don’t worry about that or the plastic pitcher.

I’m not worried. The only reason I think it might not have been holy water (not that it matters) was the use of the plastic pitcher.

The priest a Monsignor told me how happy he was. Most (not all) of the people in the community were Christmas and Easter Cradle Catholics
