A world with many religions or a world with zero religions

Sorry, but more Christians were killed/martyred for refusing to leave their faith and turn to atheism/communism in the 20th century, than all war deaths (religious and non-religious) from the previous 19 centuries combined.

And people who think religion = war have a very poor (at best) understanding of history. Only 13% of the wars in the last 2,000 years had anything to do with religion. In U.S. history, only the “war on terror” has even the slightest to do with religion (terrorists happened to be Islam extremists), the rest were for political reasons. Whether or not the people involved in the war happened to practice a religion is irrelevant because religion was not the reason for the war (to say otherwise would be to make a category mistake).

So taking out religion would not take away wars, just a small percentage of them, i.e. 87% of the wars would have still occurred even if everyone was non-religious.

And the “Hitler was a Catholic” thing is silly… it’s like those politicians who say they’re Catholic and then repeatedly vote against Church teachings (i.e. “abortion rights”). If you think the the teachings are wrong, then you shouldn’t call yourself Catholic because according to you Catholicism isn’t true anyway! Why on Earth anyone would want to associate themselves with something they believe to be false is beyond me…

I would also like to point out the obvious: look at how far the moral code has declined in the last 50-60 years, when Church attendance has rapidly declined and the media constantly promotes anti-Christian teachings. People constantly use each other. Divorce rates are through the roof. Fatherlessness is an epidemic. Some people are “serial monogamists” who either never marry at all or they divorce and remarry so much that it makes marriage seem like a joke. STDs are growing at an alarming rate, and chlamydia, for example, isn’t responding to treatments as well as it used to. Yeah, the HIV/AIDS cases may have declined, but the “less serious” ones are steadily increasing with an estimated 2/3 to 3/4 of sexually active young people 15-24 either have or used to have some sort of STD. I think when you remove God from society, people start to lose their moral code. For many people, no God means no reason to not be selfish. My generation is probably the biggest group of narcissists the world has ever seen, and I don’t see much hope for future generations if we don’t turn things around.

And even if there is no religion, at the very least teach people to respect themselves and respect others. Something that is severely lacking these days.

  1. If people reject the true religion in favor of an untrue religion then those people will not go to heaven…
False premise. You are ignoring the culpability of the person.
  1. If there are no religions then people cannot reject the true religion in favor of an untrue religion…
Also a false premise. To reject the true religion is to turn to one of one’s own making; it is to reject a relationship God in favor of one with yourself.

Personally, I think the idea of getting into Heaven free from the shackles of religion.

Now, if someone could only be so kind as to point me in the direction of one of those Godless Utopias… …

The problem with this argument is that it assumes that “no religion” is even possible. We know full well that in the absence of God, people will create for themselves an idol (ie. a man-made religion). There are so many examples of man-made religions that have gained strength since people have turned their backs on God in our society today: the “American Dream”, global socialism, and radical environmentalism just to name a few.

We need to remember that Satan is real and that he has angelic intelligence that far surpasses that of any human being. Without the real living presence of Jesus Christ in our lives through His one true church, our salvation becomes vastly more cumbersome.

There is no utopia.

There is only cruel reality of an uncaring universe and the reality that we live a short time in said universe before dying.

…because the soul is a human construct and there is no God.
The soul is the spirit and The bodies, bond. To say their is no spirit is to say that we do not have free will, because the spirit gives us free will.

Once again, your opinion, and your evangelizing your own atheistic agenda.

The implication seems to be that the world would be a better place without religion.

Without religion there is no heaven (because there is no afterlife, according to most every atheist that I have ever encountered). Thus, the table from the OP should actually look more like this:

No religions|Many religions

No one|All good peopleless the set of people who rejected the true religion

QED: it is far more beneficial to have many religions than to have no religions.

Why would you not want to receive Gods life into your soul?
If God were in fact real, created the world as we know it, created man in his likeness and put the salvation plan into motion…

I would want nothing to do with that God.

However, it is true that we are not the judge of men’s souls. What exactly constitutes a sinful rejection of Catholicism is ultimately up to God. I will contend, however, that the set of people who sinfully reject Catholicism is not empty. There exist good people who have not gone to heaven because of their rejection of Catholicism.

I’m not sure why justice demands the existence of religion.
The God of Abraham demands that no one rejects him. He created his children ( without their (name removed by moderator)ut) and if they reject him, he insists they live for eternity in hell. No second chances once you die.

Seems like a raw deal to me.

Eternity is a long time, especially when you had no say in the matter.

If hell was real and given the choice, I would rather not exist, rather than have to spend eternity in hell.

( If I never existed, I wouldn’t know any better)

Arguing with athiests is like talking to a deaf mule…
Come on, that’s not exactly fair now is it?

Couldn’t a person say the same thing about a believer?

There is common ground to be attained.

There are both good and bad believers.

There are both good and bad non-believers.

Durus;9440416:
God also gave man free will, which completely muddled the entire concept of getting everyone into the same boat.

The vast majority of the world isn’t Christian and of course, absolutely does not believe that Jesus is the son of God./

Here’s a link for you: adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html

Exactly, thanks for posting a link proving that 67% of the world population is not Christian.

Utopia doesn’t exist.

There is the here and now.

Nothing more. So, you’d better make the most of it while you have your one and only shot at existence.

Without religion, man would have one less thing to kill each over.
