A year of St. Joseph?

I have a great devotion to St. Joseph. What a role model. With marriage under attack, fathers’ rights negated in cases where women choose to have an abortion, homosexual unions, etc., it would seem to me that this might be a perfect time to celebrate a year dedicated to St. Joseph, with an emphasis on the value of family, and the importance of fatherhood and foster-parenting. Any thoughts? Do you see this as a possibility in the near future?

That’s a great idea! I, too, love St. Joseph. One thing I have noticed about him is that whatever you pray for, he always gives you more than what you have asked for. I hope he comes through for me today…things are bleak.

Please say a quick prayer to him for me today.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH
(Ad te Beate Joseph – prayer of Pope Leo XIII)
To thee, O blessed Joseph, do we have recourse in our tribulation, and having implored the help of thy thrice holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. By that charity wherewith thou wast united to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that fatherly affection with which thou didst embrace the Child Jesus, we beseech thee and we humbly pray, that thou wouldst look graciously upon the inheritance which Jesus Christ hath purchased by His Blood, and assist us in our needs by thy power and strength.

Most watchful Guardian of the Holy Family, protect the chosen people of Jesus Christ; keep far from us, most loving father, all blight of error and corruption: mercifully assist us from heaven, most mighty defender, in this our conflict with the powers of darkness; and, even as of old thou didst rescue the Child Jesus from the supreme peril of his life, so now defend God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; keep us one and all under thy continual protection, that we may be supported by thine example and thine assistance, may be enabled to lead a holy life, die a happy death and come at last to the possession of everlasting blessedness in heaven. Gladly. May St. Joseph watch over you today as he watched over the infant Jesus and His mother.

Accordingly, one of the first acts of the pontificate of Pius IX, himself singularly devoted to St. Joseph, was to extend to the whole Church the feast of the Patronage (1847), and in December, 1870, according to the wishes of the bishops and of all the faithful, he solemnly declared the Holy Patriarch Joseph, patron of the Catholic Church, and enjoined that his feast (19 March) should henceforth be celebrated as a double of the first class (but without octave, on account of Lent).

In 2020, it will be 150 years. So, maybe?!? Sooner would be better, but that would certainly be a good reason.

I think a year of Saint Joseph would be a wonderful idea. Young men need a great model of manliness which is not rough and agressive, but humble, caring and chaste.

May the Guardian of our Lord pray for us
 
Does the Pope entertain such suggestions? It would be easy to generate an argument for a year honoring St. Joseph. I have tried doing some research, and cannot find that there has ever been a year dedicated to St. Joseph. The times we are in would certainly warrant it.
