Oh I’m sorry that’s horrible! The one group of people that should support you… 😦 I don’t really have any suggestions on how to deal except to put your faith in God and His mercy, and remember that persecution gains great graces in Heaven.

It’s the way the cookie crumbles, if you will. And like I said earlier they’d make ad hominem attacks and when I try to defend the Church using logical a+b=c type arguments I’m deemed warped and they have been known to revoke privileges in name of the commandment ‘obey your father and mother’. Errr. Oh well.

btw, im going to talk to my priest tomorro, please say an Ave for me:)

It was bad. I was asked to serve and do the book out of the blue by our deacon, and I did the book only once and I stopped alter serving 2 years ago. I had no idea what I was doing, I’m like trying not to cry. My Dad said not to talk to him today, and to wait 2 weeks because I’m going on a mission trip with the youth group next Sunday.:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Oh that’s bad! I remember the first time I altar served shudder. But I bet you almost no one, if anyone at all, noticed you screw up. People aren’t very observant.
Think of having to wait as a test of obedience and trust. I know it’s hard and feels like forever (I wish I could’ve entered the monastery yesterday), but things happen in God’s time not ours; which seems unfortunate to us, but is for our betterment. Who knows, maybe you’ll gain some epiphany or great insight on this mission trip that will affect your vocation, and you’ll need to talk to Father about.

Hello, I’m new hear and I’m seriously considering the priesthood and more specifically the ICKSP. However, my parents aren’t quite thrilled with the decision and say that I am warped, have problems because i prefer the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Right, and often will ask me where they went wrong . Anyways, they are telling me that I’m too young (im going to be a junior this year) to be considering the priesthood. However, I have a few questions about the institute if anyone can answer them for me (i emailed them a week ago, but no response)
1: How are American Seminarians treated (i hear their not as trusted as European men)?
2: If anyone has attended the seminary, how is it? Is it very uptight and depressing or is it an enjoyable place?
3: Do they issue any degrees at the seminary?
4: Is one able to return home for the Christmas and Easter holidays?
*also any valuable information is gratefully appreciated and please pray for me
thank you and many years!
Hi, I’m sorry I don’t have any information about the seminary, but I just wanted to say… there’s definitely nothing wrong with preferring the Extraordinary Form… that is sad that your parents think so but I guess that is a trial for you 😦

have you looked into the FSSP as well? they have a seminary in Nebraska 🙂

God bless!

Yes, thank you Nowhereman. I will keep ya posted lol. Monica, yes I looked into them actually, at first they were by top choice, however I’ve come to like the Institute more, because they pay alot of atttention to chant and beautiful liturgy. However, this is directed to you both, my mom keeps badgering me to have a girlfriend, and says that I’m clumsy or tired is proof I need a girlfirend. advice?

Yes! You are only a junior in high school and things can be altered by the time you graduate.

Graduate theology is very taxing. You need at leat a B average.

Then you have psychological testing from your diocese and a personal interview with the vocation director–it’s not that easy.

Now they have made the training longer. Prior to graduate theology, you must go to an undergradute college for two years and take philosophy courses.

When you are in graduate school, this is universal, you are assigned to a parish for the whole summer to receive experience.

Actually,. you do get a CHristmas, Easter break, and the summers off; however, if you are discerning a religious order, it is completely diffferent.

In a religious order [Dominicans-Franciscans]you have one year of postulancy and sometimes it is two years. If you are voted on, you start your novitiate, which in essence, you study the Order that you are in. However, during the novitiate, you can not go home for a year and a day, unless their is a funeral.

Then comes simple vows usually for 3 years and then you renew aS A SOLEMN PROFESSION. However, your latitude differs than a diocesan priest. In a religious order you take the vow of poverty which simply means you can not own anything;not even a car; you cannot have a bank account, and you have a superior that you will have to take orders from. Sometimes in religious life, they do not go home for CHristmas or Easter; and they usually have a 2 week summer vacation. In my opinion, it is easier to become a diocesan priest because you can own anything, a car, a house, etc, The only vow you take as a diocesan priest is obedience to your bishop. In religious life you take the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

But if you are only a junior, why not wait until you graduate? The priesthood willo always be there.

If you need more info, send me a private message.

God bless you in your discernment.

Jim, the ICKSP is a community of Apostolic Life, so I think its a merger of the two, and I emailed them again for other questions and having received any response. 🤷

I hope to see you soon at the seminary. DON"T WORRY, no, at seminary, all men are trusted… 🙂 I can tell you that because of all the seminarians that visit oakland. Also, I suggest you PERFECT your serving because we all know that the ICKSP is really focussed on the Mass, and they are known to be perfectionist. Also, I would like to suggest you read the Introduction to the Devout Life, and pray the rosary as many times as you can a day, and remember, don’t let anyone bring you down. Please pray for me, I am praying for you, I also have a vocation to the seminary, and I am only a sophomore.

In Christo Rege
Joseph Roque…

:signofcross: Have u talked to a priest yet? I met my parish priest for the first time, today!🙂

oh, yes i have, his name is Canon Jean Marie Moreau. He is really funny and nice. Now, he told me to altar serve, I did, and now I am in love with the cassock and the liturgy. How about you? your exp?

I haven’t had any experience with any traditional orders, and only been to the EF twice, but i served for a couple years at my OF parish and talked to my pastor who is very traditional.

oh i see, is there any traditional mass in your area? Group?

We have a good number but i dont have a liscense until sep. 8. However, I’m planning on assisting at the Ukrainian Divine Liturgy the town over at 9 am, because the EF is either far a way and at a bad time or close and at a very bad time.

WOW, i want to go to a UKRAINIAN DIVINE LITURGY, so lucky so lucky. If you go to the EF, what group is it? ICKSP or FSSP or SSPX 😦 😦

Yeah honestly I think from what I’ve seen it looks more impressive than theEF… Diocesean
