When Moses came down the mountain and saw the apostasy of the people, he called out for those who were faithful to the Lord to rally around him. The tribe of Levi gathered around Moses. The Levites were the only tribe that did not commit idolatry with the golden calf. For their faithfulness…”Today you have ordained yourselves for the service of the Lord” (Ex 32:29).

Ex:1-35 tells the story of the golden calf and Aaron’s part in it.

Why, then, is Aaron not punished for his part in the incident of the golden calf?
 
Aaron seems to have gotten away with a lot of things that seem like it deserved at least some punishment. Remember the incident when he and his sister Miriam rebelled against Moses? Only Miriam was changed to a leper because of it and was only restored because Aaron interceded to Moses for her.

Neither Aaron or Miriam (or Moses, for that matter) lived to enter the Promised Land.
