Abbreviations/Definitions: Totally Lost - Need Help

I’m interested in following the conversations in this section, but I’m just hung up on things, like EF? OF? SSPX? Huh?

As I’d like to learn more about traditional Catholicism, I find myself frustrated because I don’t know the vocabulary or the abbreviations, so I’m really just lost beyond TLM (traditional Latin mass).

I don’t want to re-invent the wheel, so I’m hoping that someone posted this information a long time ago and I just don’t know where to look and where to find it.

Can a moderator or someone point me in the right direction? (Also, if this thread isn’t in the right spot, then please move it where it needs to be. Thanks Moderators.)

Here is an older thread that discussed some of the abbreviations. However, don’t ever feel bad about asking if you just don’t know.

I still ask, although I have found several times they weren’t religious abbreviations, but technical jargon or texting slang. Man do I feel old sometimes…

My friend, you are absolutely correct! We all need to have the courtesy to write clearly and not use acronyms constantly.

A quick internet search will usually turn up the definition.

OF= The Mass of the Ordinary Form according to the current missal.
EF= The Mass of the Extraordinary Form, the traditional Latin Mass of 1962.
SSPX= Society of St. PiusX, the group started by Archbishop Lefebvre.

I understand how it’s so easy to get caught up in the shorthand because it’s just easier.

It’s just nice to have a cheat sheet so we newbies can follow along too!
