I can’t tell you the number of people I know (smart and educated even) who are absolutely convinced that while the church teaching on sexuality is true in general, that the “rigidity” with which it is applied “without nuance” is based on the erroneous prudential judgement that rules must be kept simple lest everyone think that exceptions apply to them. And then, of course, they go on to find exceptions to apply to them. It’s a dangerous thing. Be careful.

Except that the argument that current opposition to capital punishment is prudential is explicitly stated by Cardinal Dulles and implied by both Cardinal Ratzinger and the USCCB.

My position on capital punishment is based on the Traditional teaching of the church and the belief that what she taught in the past is true today. Your reference is to people who reject church teaching past and present. You won’t find them citing 2000 years of church doctrine to support their positions.
