Which, unfortunatley, is a similar argument used by nearly everyone who doesn’t like some particular teaching of the church. I can’t tell you the number of people I know (smart and educated even) who are absolutely convinced that while the church teaching on sexuality is true in general, that the “rigidity” with which it is applied “without nuance” is based on the erroneous prudential judgement that rules must be kept simple lest everyone think that exceptions apply to them. And then, of course, they go on to find exceptions to apply to them. It’s a dangerous thing. Be careful.I don’t accept that the church teaches error either, either now or in the past.
