Is watching ABC’s Modern Family sinful? If so, how much?

Sure, it’s definitely not based off of a normal family (it seems more of a dysfunctional family).

The thing I’m worried about is the gay part of the family. There are two gay guys living together. I don’t know if this makes the show anymore sinful though. It’s not like they show anything explicit (the worst is probably a quick little kiss on the cheap).

A lot of families I know watch this show I think. I do to. I find it pretty funny.

Why would watching a television show constitute a sin? It’s not porn or something.

If it’s sinful to watch a show that depicts something contrary to Church teaching, it follows that it’s sinful to read a book that depicts something contrary to Church teaching. The Bible is full of depictions of sinful behavior. From that we can logically conclude that it’s sinful to read the Bible…right?

I don’t know if it’s sinful, but I try to watch shows that emphasize the good in humanity. (Granted they are getting harder and harder to find.) I’ve never seen this show so I have no idea what it’s like.

As long as you aren’t sinning because of this show, you technically aren’t sinning.

It could be an occasion of sin if it leads you or the people who watch the show with you to question the Church’s teaching. Just because something isn’t outright pornographic doesn’t mean you should watch it without any concerns. I would be very cautious of shows that attempts to “normalize” sinful behavior, especially if kids might be watching along with you.

Exactly. It’s probably not a sin to watch it, but it could definitely expose children to the idea that sinful behavior is okay, given the way it’s depicted on the show (I myself have watched it several times). If you’re firm in your faith and the teachings of the church, it might be okay (especially since the sinful behavior isn’t the focus of the show), but be careful. I worry that frequent exposure to sin that’s not treated as sin is harmful to anyone, even those who are firm in the faith.

that show’s pretty funny. It’s probably more sinful to watch CSI:Miami. what drivel.
