I watch TBN occasionally, and it’s always about money!!This “prosperity gospel” that is preached always ends up with people having to “sow a seed” into someone’s ministry.i.e “read Psalm 77 vs 7 and sow $7.77 or $77.70 or even $777 to get your blessing”(I’ve just used Psalm 77 as an example)

I’ve also yet to see an ordinary or poor televangelist…all the ladies are dressed to the nines and are beautifully groomed all the time.Maybe I’m just cynical, but one wonders where all the money goes that so many people obviously donate to them…

If I had not seen that clip, I never would have believed that some would say that. As I was watching Suzanne Hinn scream and carry on up there, it looked to me that she was working herself up into a state of collapse (which she did) rather than being seized by the Spirit. What a dreadful woman.

Kenneth Copeland has scary demonic eyes…and his head is too big for his body makes him look like a cartoon character to me. He has these tiny shoulders and short legs, I wonder if he has dwarfism.
I can’t stand Paula White. And that really ugly mother daughter team-Hickey- makes me sick too. But there are some I don’t mind listening too. I listen to Joyce Meyer, the Robison’s and that funny blonde woman on their show(Beth Moore), Miles Munroe, TD Jakes and Creflo Dollar occasionally. Even Paul Hagee is funny sometimes and I do watch the 700 Club. Pat Robertson actually said something nice about Catholics the other day concerning the sex abuse scandal. I was shocked. He prayed that the Catholic faithful do not give in to despair over it. I think Charles Stanley could be a dangerous man–he comes across as benign but says some very harsh and racist things.
 
Uhhh. I think the Gregorian calendar might have been named for Pope St. Gregory the Great who was born in the Fifth Century AD, and the calendar was not adopted in most of the world until about 500 years ago.
As for TBN, when I owned a television set, I would look at TBN for the laughs as the parade of televngelists pitched for dollars while preaching often divergent “gospels”.

“And we will be BRINGING the GOSPEL to ITALY and SPAIN!!!”
and I just grin and think, Lady, the “gospel” has been
proclaimed there for 2000 years…

How could this Munsey character actually have a Doctorate
and make ridiculous claims that Constantine created the
Gregorian calendar ??? It just doesn’t make sense.
And Paula White, with her vacuous stare, nodding in agreement with Munsey the whole time…you gotta wonder how these people got chosen to have THEIR programs regularly aired on TBN.
Aren’t there any INTELLIGENT ministers that Paul and Jan could choose to broadcast on TBN???

yes but I was thinking of the ‘southern’ ugly—as in mannerisms as much as physical looks. She is mean in my opinion. And her daughter is too.
Incidentally all of Kenneth Copeland’s children seem to have inherited his looks but they don’t have the scariness to it—I wonder if it is just something about him as a person…?

I have watched their show several times. Maybe I’m dense,
but I never picked up any mean-ness on their part…can you give me some examples of why they come across as mean ?

In person, Kenneth Copeland’s eyes are neither scary nor demonic. They are very blue and though his gaze can be intense, there is nothing demonic about it.

I have heard them make very mean comments about Catholics being unbelievers and not christian and also that we harbor pedophiles. this was on an interview they did for some other tv show–not sure if it was 700 Club or not. But it was a woman who interviewed them and she just smiled and nodded in agreement.

WE don’t harbor pedophiles,
but a few of our bishops certainly seem to have done so.

((financial)) “Offering,” the TBN address would flash on the screen. How convenient, and moreover, in my sincere opinion,
how utterly and outrageously UNSCRUPULOUS.

This is one of those extremely outrageous things that makes me want to shout, “Bring BACK the Inquisition !!”

Why did Constantine invoke the Gregorian Calendar in the first place according to Munsey? Because he noticed all the people who practiced the day of antonement getting rich and he was jealous. In fact, if you preached about the offering for the day of atonement you’d be killed by Constantine’s minions which Munsey said on INSP a while back. Where in the world does Munsey get his doctorate?

It’s at things like THAT that I draw the line with protestant commentators like Munsey. This kind of a statement is a flat-out, bald-faced LIE. Constantine never ordered the Church to insititute NOR to abandon, any Feasts. He held no authority in the church. He liked the Church, but he was the King, not the pope nor any other bishop of renown. He wasn’t even a priest.

We are supposed to, in charity, give the benefit of the doubt to all and assume, unless otherwise evident, that they err in good faith. Munsey, however (and those who promote him on tv)
is making statements that are Jack Chick-type Conspiracy theories that have not a whit of historical evidence in support of them.

Constantine never persecuted ANYONE in the church for observing ANY Feast. The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Galatians, is the one who told the church, in no uncertain terms, to stop celebrating the
Days and Seasons and Months and Years of the Mosaic covenant and not to submit for religious reasons to circumcision.
St. Paul put a stop to churchwide observance of such old covenant feasts, NOT Constantine.

The Gregorian calendar is named for pope Gregory the Great who lived in the 6th century A.D., around 250 years AFTER Munsey claims that Constantine forced the GREGORian Calendar on the church at the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D.

It is cases like this one in which I cannot presume good faith on the part of the commentator, because this man is a “pastor,” who claims to have a Doctoral degree. You would think that with a doctorate he would be able to get a few basic facts straight.

What seems to me to be going on here is that perhaps some of the televangelists need an infusion of cash in September after the “Summer Slump” in giving $$, and they have come up with this whacked-out, Judaizing, old covenant Day of Atonement offering in order (so they say) for Christians to receive
a “double portion” from God of financial and other blessings,
such as the winning of lawsuits, your kids getting financial aid to attend great colleges, etc. The whole thing smacks of
unscrupulousness to me.

On Daystar, I saw Bill Cloud and Perry Stone talking about the Feast of Tabernacles and Day of Atonement, although they didn’t connect it to money per se: Perry connected to the Rapture. Those that give as seen in the Book of Malaci will be written in the book of rememberance and those written in that book will be raptured at the end of days. Pretty weird if you ask me.

Their rationale for honoring these Jewish feast days is that this is God’s calendar not man’s. (If God is in eternity, which means, He has no calendar because time doesn’t change for him, so I’m not sure how that works…) As I was watching this, I was hoping that Stone and Cloud would discover the feasts and celebration of the Church, but then Bill Cloud said something which really railed my nerves. Bill Cloud said that God’s calendar has been “mixed” in the dominitions all whom think they have the Truth and that we should be concerned with “what our Father says not what our fathers say.” Was it just me or what he pinning the Catholic Church on that one? (I didn’t captalize the fathers because I wasn’t sure about the context.) Afterwards, they talked about the Day of Atonement is a time for collective repentence for the church. What do you think?

The Day of Atonement, as observed by the Jewish people today, is a holy day of the Old Covenant, the Mosaic Law covenant
and has absolutely NOTHING to do with Christians.

Those pastors, Munsey, et al, are asserting that the Church has been failing to memorialize the Day of Atonement. That is not true. Each Sunday Eucharist is a Day of Atonement fulfillment because we offer with Christ to the Father, the Risen, Glorified Jesus TO the Father, the COMPLETED sacrifice of Calvary.
These fundies, who have no Mass, cannot grasp this reality.
I strongly recommend the book,
WORTHY IS THE LAMB, by Thomas J. Nash,
as a Catholic antidote to these claims about the old covenant Day of Atonement. The book goes into great detail about how the Mass fulfills and commemorates ALL the Old Testament Sacrifices (such as Passover, Tamid, Atonement, etc.).

But the Old testament holy day, the Day of Atonement itself,
has no reference or value for Christians today.

Our local evangelical tv station, Cornerstone TV, carries televangelist Mike Murdock. He seems to be right along the same lines of the people you are discussing. What bothers me most about their message isn’t necessarily the shameless shilling for money. It’s the false promises and hopes that often accompany these pitches.

Their pitches are always accompanied by stories of say a poor farmer with $100 in the bank and the wife was just diagnosed with cancer pledges some ministry tons more money than he can afford. God lets them sweat it out a bit as they struggle to make their pledge. Before you know it more money than the farmer can use miraculously materializes and all live happily ever after. It’s not just one or two stories like this but the model is the same for story after story. Often they relate the Bible story of the widow giving her last mite as an offering, making everybody think that this type of fund raising is biblically mandated.

Just one more reason we have TBN blocked out on our cable box.

But, in all fairness to TBN, it’s no sillier than some of the things I’ve seen taught on EWTN.
