Abomination of Desolation

I have a theory about what the Abomination of Desolation refers to:

The abomination of desolation was to be set up 1290 days or years after the temple sacrifice of Daniel’s time ended

Daniel 12:11 (ASV) “And from the time that the continual [burnt-offering] shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand and two hundred and ninety days.”

Jerusalem was first sacked by Babylon in 604BC.

Soon after the Temple 's construction, Nebuchadrezzar II of Babylon forced the Jews into exile, removed their temple treasures in 604 BC and 597 BC, and finally completely destroyed the temple in 586 BC.

1290 years later leads us to 687AD, the year the abomination of desolation was to be set up. But what happened in 687AD?

At this hallowed site, known in Arabic as Haram al Sharif, the 9th Caliph, Abd al-Malik, built the great Dome of the Rock between 687 and 691.

Could the building of a temple to another religion on the holy site of Solomon’s temple be the abomination of desolation? It seems to fit the descriptions:

Matt 24:15 -16 (AV) “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place (whoso readeth, let him understand Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:”

It seems to fit. Certainly Christians had to flee, and it was build on the holy place.

Daniel said the abomination of desolation would last 1260 years.

1260 years after 687AD is 1947. But what happend in 1947? All I can come up with is that while the UN partitioned palestine between Jews and Palestinians that year, the people fought and the Temple mount came under control of the new state of Israel. Could that be enough to be the end of the abomination of desolation?

But, Daniel says that whoever waits until 1335 years will be happy. 1335 years after 687AD is 2022AD. Perhaps something more final will happen to the dome of the rock in 2022AD.
