But Trickster, do you not have like 10 threads on aboriginal Catholicism?
I do, how do we delete them? I asked the moderators and they just told me to let them run out as other people might want to continue the dialogue after I’lm long gone asking other questions 🙂

I seriously feel like we need a subforum or something because there are so many threads on this.

And since this topic is very much about innovation in the Mass, I’m not sure why there are all in the TC forum, but I guess that’s up to the moderator.
Actually TrueLight…my threads are not all about innovations in the Mass, I am also thinking about how to teach catechism, how do we create ABoriginal Catholic communities. how do we reconcile through a theological framework aboriginal spirituality world views, the teaching and the spirituality of the church and so forth…but your right lately I have been somewhate focused on the mass…

Good point

These services allow us to then focus on the central function of our mass and that is the remembering, reliving and renewing the actual and remember sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our sins or finite nature and limits as humans. The taize services etc., allow us to grow, to become more sensitive, to continually be converted and to continually fall in love.

It is those complimentary and spiritually nourishing strategies, services, etc., that I am talking about when I talk about making greater utilization of aboriginal spirituality. The Aboriginal Catholic community is free to develop devotional services, sacramentals, honour our own saints like Tekakwitha, etc., as a way of growing up as individuals and allowing us to focus - with the rest of our global catholic family - on the work of redemption that Jesus has done for all of us.
  1. Where did you learn to write in this manner?
  2. I think you are trying to square the circle: to create a traditional-Indian-Catholic spirituality by … making one up in 2012! It won’t work and you are wasting people’s time, including your own, doing it.
Syncretism is pretty close to pick-and-mix Catholicism. Our problem, as white, Western Catholics, is getting our Catholic culture out of the hands of busy modernists, who want to ‘enrich the community experience at prayer via inculturation in a loving manner’, I mean, ahem, to deform it, to accord with current fashion.

Roger, no one is talking about syncretism here… .if you think that then you are somehow not getting the full picture of my threads (which is totally understandable given the amount of threads we all see in CAF). We need a balance because Church IS community too…and that cannot be denied.

In terms of your other point…as an Aboriginal person, let me handle the part of what is and what is not a waste of time for my people…I’ve got a bit of experiential knowledge and life to have a good handle on that, all righty 🙂

Heh heh, no, the Church is a hierarchy and I think people don’t realise how useful that is in an era of mindless egalistarianism.

“HE must increase and I must decrease”, etc.

Well the blessings of hierarchy have a good and an abused side if you know what I mean…it is certainly necessary when you have a global community to maintain…so no disagreement there…but to say that egaltarianism is mindless is to misunderstand the concept in the first place…just saying…🙂

Our problem, as white, Western Catholics, is getting our Catholic culture…
Say what? Is Catholicism for white people?

Oh I get it now. That must be why black people are minorities in the TLM community.

Trickster, I actually think having praise and worship service outside of the mass might be a better approach. Don’t charismatics have similar services?

That way you’re not tinkering with the mass.

Hi True Light, I agree. As we moved forward in the conversation that is what I said my “ah ha” moment was…it wasn’t tinkering with the Mass, but developing an aboriginal or indigenous context to increase the spiritual nourishment of the Catholic experience through supplimentary or complimentary "services’ or “programs” (such as the Cosmic Mass project that I have started to work on) which connected to a holistic experience.

The ordinary form of mass already allows for a great diversity of cutlural, popular, social expression in which Aboriginal or indigneous expressions can be implmented. This idea would not work in the extraordinary form, because the Latin Mass in itself is a beautiful cultural expression and should not be changed, otherwise it looses its uniqueness…

Thoughts.
