Abort My Child? No Way, Says Bishop-Elect's Mom

Great story! Not everyone hears the call that clearly (or early!) We need to continue to pray for vocations.
 
I remember a church I once attended a doctor strongly advised one of the parishioners to abort her baby stating it has so many problems it would not live more than a couple of years. She refused, thankfully, and a perfectly healthy girl was born. The last time I saw her she was about 5 or 6 with big blue eyes and wavy locks of golden blond hair, smiles and playing. Nothing was wrong with the child.
 
I’m confused. The Bishop-elect was born in 1968. I wasn’t around then, but were people allowed to have abortions in case of “imperfect” fetuses back then (presumably depending on the state)?

(I was thinking someone born after Roe v. Wade would be pretty young to be a bishop. 🙂 )

Abortion was already legal in some U.S. states in 1968 (when the bishop was born), before the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, that generally struck down U.S. laws forbidding abortion.

Praise be to God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ! Such an inspiring story. Her courage and love for God’s gifts to her led to a most fruitful son.
 
It doesn’t speak well of the doctor to misdiagnose acne as a serious deformity.
