Yes, that is a direct quote from my health class text book. I am sickened.

So here is the question.
Abortion, sexuality(orientation), and contraception will all be covered in a health and kinesiology class that I am now taking. I am back in school after a nine year hiatus and this ‘gem’ came up on my syllubus. I read the chapter, which will be dealt with later in the semester and I would like to know where to start in disputing the facts. Where can I look for a reputable study that shows the obsurdity of the arguments my text book is shelling out? I would like some good research to back up any discussion that might arise. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

TIA:thumbsup:

Bear in mind that even if it’s true that abortion is 10x safer for the mother than giving birth, that wouldn’t affect the truth of the Catholic position.

That being said, the statistic may well be inaccurate and you are right to check it out. Just don’t approach the matter with the assumption that the statistic must be proved false in order to defend the Catholic position.

👍

I would also pay attention to how they define “safer.” Having an abortion would, of course, eliminate the risks of pregnancy, delivery, and then raising a child - but, it introduces its own risks as a medical procedure.

Also, there are studies showing that there are medical benefits for women in bearing children as well as breastfeeding - especially in the area of reproductive cancers. Terminating a pregnancy would not permit a woman to enjoy these benefits, which arguably make her “safer” against these diseases.

Might be10X safer for the mother…hardly so for the baby!

Statistics say that in almost every abortion a human being dies… so I hardly see that as “safer”…

" The best available evidence now contradicts the “established medical fact,” relied upon in Roe v Wade, claiming that the maternal mortality rate for abortion is lower than that of childbirth.
Recent analyses of large medical databases linked to death certificates have now shown that when mortality rates associated with abortion and childbirth are examined using a single uniform standard, significantly higher mortality rates are associated with abortion.
These record linkage studies have demonstrated that pregnancy-associated deaths are actually two to four times higher for aborting women compared to delivering women. "

Babies are human beings, and are always murdered by abortion or those performing abortions in late terms.
ehd.org/movies.php?mov_id=44
Approximately 1,000,000 (ONE MILLION) babies are aborted in the USA each year.

Besides the obvious that it is not at all safe for the baby, what about the psychological implications to the Mom? How many suffer from depression after? How many are suicidal? Certainly, we have stats on post partum depression after some Moms give birth. Surely, there must be stats on Moms who have had abortions.
Also what does it do to the the father’s and mother’s relationship? What about the grandparents and in-laws? Do men, aka the fathers, suffer depression after finding out the mother of their child aborted the child?

Yes, depressions is seen on all sides. In Steven Tyler’s book I heard that he talks about the sadness he felt after his girlfriend had an abortion. It was a baby boy which was extra hard for him. People forget that abortion affects the man.

Also, giving birth is not a health risk! Women have babies all the time and very few die in child birth or suffer from complications anymore. What a load of ****.

I have heard of cases where people have had bad side effects from abortions. Not to mention it’s damaging your womb to abort but is perfectly healthy to give birth. Women who had multiple abortions sometimes have trouble getting pregnant when they “want” a baby, other women give birth to premature babies (the risk for this increases with each abortion).

Abortion is infinitely more dangerous for the baby (obviously), which is why we are against it.
