I have a very dear friend who believes these two are considered Mortal Sins. Is she correct?

They are grave matter.

If committed with full knowledge and complete consent, yes they are mortal sins in Catholic teaching.

She thought they were too. Since she’s a Catholic, I think she should go to confession and see what the priest thinks she should do.

She thinks she should talk to the Bishop in the Syracuse area. I’m trying to become a Catholic, so I’m not a lot of hlp to her. I feel bad because she’s so sry for it!

I agree that she should start with going to confession to her own priest. He should be able to take care of the adultery issue if she is repentant and will not be committing adultery in the future. It is possible that he may need to refer her to some diocesan office or to the Bishop on the abortion issue, but he will be best able to direct her in accordance with whatever his diocese has directed.
