If a mothers life is endangered you cannot abort the baby to save the mothers life. Abortion is never permitted in the Catholic Church. You can try to cure the mother, and accept the loss of the child as a side consequence. This is different than abortion. With abortion, the procedure is done with the intent to kill the child. If the mother is trying to be cured and the child dies during the procedure, it is not the same because the intent was to save the mothers life. This is different than committing abortion to save a mother’s life. By doing this your intent is to kill the child in order to save the mother which is different than trying to save the mother and accepting the death of the child as a side consequence.

allhers and JimG, remember that the extremely high likelihood that the baby will die anyway is not the justification for the removal of the fallopian tube or uterus. The justification for those actions is that those actions are necessary to save the life of the mother.

You can’t say that the procedures are allowed because the baby will die anyway.
