A report says that aborted fetal cell lines are being employed in the development of common vaccination shots for our children…

I don’t know enough to be sure that our children are functionally being injected with aborted baby flesh. The implication of the grissly report, if true, is that our children are benefitting from abortions.
 
Yes, sadly, it is true. However, there are often alternatives, if you know to ask your pediatrician for them. Check out www.cogforlife.org for information about alternatives as well as hope for new vaccinations that are not made from aborted fetal tissue. You can also look at www.omsoul.com to find doctors that are pro-life and will know if there is an alternative for a particular vaccine. We do need to spread the word and support those who are searching for alternatives.
 
They are not being injected with aborted baby flesh. As reprehensible as this viral isolation technique is, there are no cells left after the extraction process.

That being said there is the possibility that there is aborted fetal DNA remaining in the vaccine. It would be incredibly minuscule, nanograms per ml or less, but possibly present. This shows me that I need to research the alternatives listed by laomath…

Is this some tactic by the culture of death to put some kind of a positive spin on the evils of abortion???
 
I would like to correct a false impression some people may get from reading that these vaccines are made from “aborted baby flesh.” That is NOT the case.

What happened in the case of these vaccines was that the tissue originally used to develop the vaccines was taken from an aborted child, placed in a petri dish in the laboratory, and the cells allowed to multiply. Then the newly multiplied cells were broken off, placed in other petri dishes, and multiplied again, and the process has been repeated for many generations. That is how a “cell line” is formed. These cells are used to grow weakened versions of the virus that the vaccine is supposed to combat.

In each case the cell line involved comes from one fetus that was aborted many years ago (as long as 30 or 40 years ago in some cases). It does NOT involve repeated or ongoing use of new fetal tissue. The moral cooperation involved in the use of such vaccines by a doctor or parent would be very remote.

The Children of God for Life site contains statements from respected, orthodox Catholic moral theologians regarding the use of such vaccines. All agree that alternative cell lines should be developed and provided that do not use aborted fetuses (they can use tissue from miscarried fetuses or from animals). All agree that using such “clean” cell lines is preferable and should be done if reasonably possible.

However, at least half of the theologians quoted believe that it is not morally OBLIGATORY to avoid use of the morally tainted vaccines at all cost, or for parents to refuse to vaccinate their children if no alternative is available, since these products do NOT involve ongoing or recent abortions and the level of moral cooperation involved in an immoral act that took place decades ago (in many cases, before the child or even the parent was born!) is very low.

However, anyone with a modicum of training in biology will tell you that it is impossible for vaccines (or any other injected medicine) to contain human tissue. The reason is simple: if you are injected with anything containing tissue from another person, your body will immediately recognize it as an invader and begin attacking it. This immune response is often quite radical and can easily lead to death! This is why blood from a donor to a recipient must be carefully matched before the recipient can receive it. Thus, there is no human tissue of any kind in vaccines. Unfortunately, the anti-vaccination movement (and even some naive pro- life groups) will try to convince the uninformed that vaccines contain tissue from aborted babies and that abortions must be continually done to supply this tissue to the “evil” drug companies. This is, of course, a bald-faced lie. Unfortunately, this lie is particularly evil, in that it targets a person’s morally correct view that abortion is murder.

This is the first time I ever heard of vaccinations coming from cell lines of aborted fetuses. It amazes me because I learn something new everyday in this forum. :eek:

What is the difference between using the aborted fetus cell lines rather then the aborted fetus flesh? All in all it seems to me they both come from the poor babies that were aborted isn’t it? Why can’t the Scientist come up with a method of creating vaccinations without using the cell lines of aborted fetuses? We can put men on the moon, and create all kinds of other amazing gadgets. Why? Why? Why?
 
The Pontifical Academy for Life at the Vatican released a report in 2005 entitled Moral Reflections on Vaccines Prepared from Cells Derived from Aborted Human Fetuses. A Link to that report is here: cogforlife.org/vaticanresponse.htm

In essence, it deplores the practice of developing vaccines by utilizing as a culturing medium certain cell lines that originated from aborted fetuses (e.g., WI-38 and MRC-5). It further urges pharmaceutical companies to pursue alternative methods of producing these vaccines. As for the morality of faithful Catholics using these vaccines, the report says that in the absence of a viable alternative, the vaccines may be used “to avoid a serious risk not only for one’s own children but also, and more specifically, for the health conditions of the population as a whole – especially for pregnant women.”

I do not know the status of this report today, nor do I know what Benedict XVI’s teaching is on this issue or the report, or even if he has reviewed the report himself. As far as I have been able to tell, this is only official Vatican document that specifically deals with this issue. There may be others, but I am not aware of any.
