2.) The woman will have to carry the guilt and shame of killing an innocent child for her entire life. [/quit]

Or, she will recall the rape every time she looks at the child.

It is also said that only 1% of rape victims who become pregnant actually get abortions; that is a lower number than those who aren’t raped.

Because your statement is a lie. It’s not a mistake, it’s not a misrepresentation, it’s a bold-faced, cold-blooded, politically motivated, objectively impossible, LIE:

Rape-related pregnancy: estimates and descriptive characteristics from a national sample of women.

OBJECTIVE:
We attempted to determine the national rape-related pregnancy rate and provide descriptive characteristics of pregnancies that result from rape.
STUDY DESIGN:
A national probability sample of 4008 adult American women took part in a 3-year longitudinal survey that assessed the prevalence and incidence of rape and related physical and mental health outcomes.
The national rape-related pregnancy rate is 5.0% per rape among victims of reproductive age (aged 12 to 45); among adult women an estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year. Among 34 cases of rape-related pregnancy, the majority occurred among adolescents and resulted from assault by a known, often related perpetrator. Only 11.7% of these victims received immediate medical attention after the assault, and 47.1% received no medical attention related to the rape. A total 32.4% of these victims did not discover they were pregnant until they had already entered the second trimester; 32.2% opted to keep the infant whereas 50% underwent abortion and 5.9% placed the infant for adoption; an additional 11.8% had spontaneous abortion.
CONCLUSIONS:
Rape-related pregnancy occurs with significant frequency. It is a cause of many unwanted pregnancies and is closely linked with family and domestic violence. As we address the epidemic of unintended pregnancies in the United States, greater attention and effort should be aimed at preventing and identifying unwanted pregnancies that result from sexual victimization.

You know what the 1% figure is? 32’000 rape pregancies * 50% = 16’000 rape-related abortions per year, per 1.2 million ALL abortions in the US per year works out to about 1% (1.3% to be more exact).

umber four is replaced by another invasive procedure which carries high risks and can effect her ability to have other children in the future.
Please provide supporting epidemiological data for this claim.

No excuse. No one says she can’t give the child up for adoption and in fact has to keep the child. Quit making excuses for a non-issue.

More like a situation of semantics. Only 1% who procure an abortion, as you stated below, do so for rape (categories are typically rape/incest combined). 1.3% according to your calculations. That means… what? Well, it means 98.7% of abortions are NOT performed for rape/incest (which is what most classifications are including). Further, of the 98.7%, roughly 5-6% do it for “health concerns”. Somewhere around 93% of abortions are performed as merely elective murder.

OK. And? As I said above, that means around 98.7% are getting them because they’re selfish- whether “mother’s” life or just pure selfishness.

Would these women die for their child to live if the child was 4 or 5 or 20 or whatever? I’d hope so. If not, they’re just selfish people regardless.

Or, she will recall the rape every time she looks at the child.
Not if she gives the child up for adoption.

The comment was my fault for misreading the information. I will retract that statement since it is said that only 1% of abortions are due to rape and not only 1% of rape victims get abortions.

The source for the claim that 1% of abortions are due to rape can be found at this site.

I apologize for any misinformation.

Look…there are all sorts of things that are not fair in life. God’s ways are not our ways.
  1. Someone bombs a bank…kills someone’s husband. That widow has to learn to let go of the anger and hatred. For her own good. What happens if she refuses to forgive (granted that may take time)? She is on the hook with God for that. Is it fair?
  2. A child is molested…that child will eventually have to learn to forgive…not forget…but to forgive. Is that fair.
There is injustice all the time in this world. I’m sure you have heard the expression…two wrongs don’t make a right. Killing an unborn baby will not make the rape or it’s pain go away. And now she has committed murder. Granted…she can come in reconciliaiton with God…but that is the same opportunity the rapist has. But she will always live with the effects of that abortion.

I do not see the difference between killing a 1 year old baby and a baby 1 day after conception. It’s a person. So, if someone wants to convince me that abortion is ok in some cases, they’ll also have to convince me that killing a 1 year old baby is also ok in those cases.

Or, she will recall the rape every time she looks at the child…
Or she will recall murdering what was once part of her own body every time she sees a child.

The love given and received from her child will subdue the feelings from the rape.

With all these honest, celibate men out there who cannot find a partner and will not reproduce, why should society promote evolutionary success of a violent criminal?
Lol it appears your basically saying the semen of the rapists is evil. Are you in favor of castrating criminals? That’s what your post makes me want to conclude is your stance.

It is an unfortunate scenario, no doubt - but the lesser of two evils is for the victim to give birth to the child (who is innocent after all)

Everything about the rapist’s act is evil. It is as an intense violation of a person as one could imagine. I have a number of sisters and a few daughters and I’d have to say if any of them was raped, I could easily take to them with a knife and make sure they didn’t have the goods with which to either exercise their ‘power’ ever again, or to give them the self satisfaction of propogating their genes.

A woman raped is caught between a rock and a hard place. She is violated and just that on its own is cause for all sorts of mental and emotional trauma. Should she fall pregnant, she is then faced with having to carry, give birth to and raise a child she never planned on in the first place. It is akin to soldiers losing their limbs, or anyone suddenly losing a loved one in that it is a ‘life sentence’. Of course, a child can and will bring terrific rewards and how, in normal circumstances, anyone can consider aborting one is beyond me. However, rape is not a normal circumstance and it is perfectly understandable that a woman raped and made pregnant would go through the thought processes of getting rid of the baby. She would need a lot of help, guidance, understanding and love to come to the realisation that this child does not deserve to be killed. It is innocent.

My trouble with this entire situation is that rapists are treated so leniently in relation to the harm they cause. As a man I’d do anything to protect my sisters and daughters and as a man I can not fahom how another man could even entertain the idea of raping someone. I sometimes think we, as a society, should send out signals to all men that rape is totally intolerable and that the repercussions are as severe as the repercussions of their actions. I don’t care if the arguments are that rape is a spur of the moment thing, because one of the aspects of true manliness is learning to curb the impulses that can cause trouble and the indiscrete exercis of ‘power’ in any way, shape, or form. If rapists were castrated that would be fine by me. If the children begotten by rape were the last they’d ever produce, that would be fine by me and that life sentence would include never have the priviledge of raisng the child they begot in violence. Now, wouldn’t that be a mighty set of signals to send out to those who either wont control their impulses, or who think they have some sort of ‘power’ they can exercise over women. It would make the ‘need’ for women to have to consider abortion in these circumstances even less than a probability than it is now.

Today I have a couple of friends and family members who are unfortunately for keeping abortion legal. They made arguments about rape victims getting abortions. I believe in “adoption not abortion” But these arguments stumped me but I hope you guys can answer these:

  1. *]If a girl who was raped has a baby and gives it up for adoption. How is the child going to feel when it looks for it’s mother, finds her, and has to hear the story of his/her tragic birth?
*]A woman still has to carry that baby for 9 months and deal with the pain of pregnancy (i.e. the child kicking, morning sickness, going into labor etc.)
*]Why give the man who raped her a child? Why bring that monster’s seed into the world?

Hope you can answer these, I can’t 😦

  1. I’m going to add to what has been said; a different way of looking at things:
1.I think this reaction has a lot to do with one’s discomfort with dealing with victims of rape. If a girl’s sister breaks her elbow with a baseball bat everyone can see the cast and the story got around so there is embarassment and weirdness but the bone heals and people eventually forget. The same thing should happen in this case; I think people weird out because they think that something intimate or private happened. Remember how unmarried girls’ who got pregnant were shamed? It wasn’t because they got pregnant it was because everyone knew how they got that way. Hint: S.E.X. But rape isn’t about sex. Rape is not about desire or attraction; it’s about power and control. The sexual act is abused and distorted. An act that should bring intimacy and comfort turns instead wounds and degrades.

There is shame attached as though the victim did something wrong and sometimes peoples attitudes (what was she wearing?, she shouldn’t have been doing x, doubting some detail, etc.) suggest that society still looks to blame the victim. And we don’t like not knowing what to say or where to look in uncomfortable situations.

So why are we portraying the birth or conception as tragic? The rape, the asault, the crime is tragic. The baby is not. Anyone who does not support that child is the one who (in their own mind) makes the child a monster not the rapist.
    1. A victim of rape does not forget a few days or weeks after. Neither do women who have abortions.
3.I think there is some overestimation of sperm here as well as the underestimation of their (the friends and family members you are having this dialog with) own sin. Although I don’t think this is something that you can use in an arguement. But there is nothing demonic in the sperm of a rapist. The rapist made a choice. His “seed” did not. Let’s be really clear about that. People who rape choose to do it.
I link a few resources here (sorry not enought time to copy links).
