Abortion in the context of child rape victims

Bill,

You mention the “parents making the decision.” My understanding is that the girl doesn’t need permission from her parents in this day and age, and maybe (if this rape wasn’t reported) they wouldn’t ever know about the pregnancy in the first place.

I repeat my belief that abortion should not be performed for any reason, regardless of circumstances.
That’s my understanding as well, as a general rule. But for a 10 year old? I doubt they would even understand what was going on, let alone be able to seek out medical people to do anything for them, abortions or pretty much anything else. That’s the context I was meaning when talking about parents making decisions, not 15 year olds or something like that.

The teaching does not change. Direct abortions are allowed under no circumstances. The principle of double effect may be applied to try and discover if it is possible that the potential abortion may be only indirect. If it is not, then the fetus simply may not be aborted.

The teaching is the same regardless.

I think you might have misunderstood my post, if you were replying to it. I was clarifying for a member that when I was posting earlier and mentioned that ‘the parents make the decision’ or something like that (with respect to this thread) I had in mind young children and not teenagers. I was not condoning abortions under any circumstances.

Oh no, this was a reply to the original post. 🙂

Not true. The worlds youngest mother was 5, likely impregnated by her father who was acquitted for lack of evidence. This was in Peru and her name is Lina Medina; the circumstances of her pregnancy were well documented in 1939 when it happened.

The baby was healthy and born via c-section.
sadly he did not outlive his mom as he died of a heart condition but the point is, he still lived a life well into his adulthood, and i stand behind what i said, no reason to kill a baby unless a c section cant be done and the mom will die BUT i dont really see anyway of that being possible since a mom really dies under unforseen events. so no reason is my answer,

No wonder you are loosing the battle for minds and hearts of people in the USA.
Especially women’s hearts(!).

People realize what a monstrocity would be catholic reign over their souls, their rights, their freedoms, their lives in general and vote accordingly. And then you cry on your forums that those bad gays win, atheist win, and “sin” prevail in modern culture and life. but it is simply that people see the alternative you offer(this thread is a good example, i totally agree with Abba) and they are not so eager to so say the least to embrace it.

Nobody would care if you could coexist peacefully with those who do not share you beliefs.
But alas as any totalitarian cult you cant. You constantly wage war on humanity. The whole history of christianity proves itThen why you wonder that you dont only loose but you are not liked?.

You have way too much attitude. Why would you come in a catholic forum and being that rude? Is your life so boring you have nothing else to do? People don’t always agree on this forum but you’re way out of line.

If this be the case, we are blessed and have peace inspite of those who “persecute” us.

Matthew 5:10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you. 13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. 14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Peace to all,
T

Sadly their agenda has been present in this country for over 100 years by other forms mostly though.

Lol, unsuccessful troll is unsuccessful.

@abbadabba: for someone who evinces an interest in honest argument, I will submit that once an egg is fertilized, it is no longer an egg, but a zygote, a particular stage in human development. Why would someone not use the correct term for the zygote? If one was attempting to emotionally influence a discussion, you know, not honestly describe what is going on, that could be one reason.

Further, you appear to misunderstand the Catholic view of abortion throughout history in the last two paragraphs of your post #33. Aragonjohn has attempted to correct you. I will assume this is an honest mistake on your part.

It never ceases to amaze me that people do not see this issue as the strong imposing their will over the weak, and that some people appear to be unable to see that once it is not life, but a particular set of attributes that confer the right to life, it is only, IMO, a matter of time before some other set of ‘strongs’ will decide that some other criteria or attribute (say, the inability to accept a given political postition) is the deciding factor in who lives or who dies, and it will not matter if the person is born or not.
