Abortion is “ basic health care”

I don’t know. When I saw the title of this post, I thought it was going to be an argument for that position, and I was getting my battle armour ready. I don’t get why people think abortion is healthcare, a physician’s job is to heal, not harm.

It seems to be the old propaganda technique that if you repeat a lie often enough, people will start believing it’s true. Even better if you can force people to repeat the lie, too.
“We have always been at war with Eastasia.”

Id say we think we need to take away the dangerously ridiculous idea that abortion is anything other than intrauterine infanticide.

As I stated in another thread:

Many abortions stem from lack of community support and financial fears. Incentives influence behavior. Not that we would ever ‘pay’ for someone to have a baby, but imagine how many people would carry a baby to term and raise the child or offer for adoption if there were ready community support and financial incentive to do so. Disgusting, for sure. But probably not untrue.

To achieve fewer abortions, we need more community and financial support for unborn babies.

Sex needs to be put back into its proper context. Abortion is not health care.

We also need more functional families and communities, which were gradually torn down by radicals.

The point is, most people aren’t getting abortions because of true financial need in the USA. They’re getting them because having to be pregnant for 9 months, even if they gave up the baby through adoption or through “safe harbor” abandonment, doesn’t fit with their plans and will get in the way of other stuff they want to do.

Considering that, here in the US, you’re all but guaranteed not to starve if you tell government agencies or non-profits what you’re going through- and that many states have laws that allow you to leave a child at a fire station or other safe haven if you still feel that you can’t support them, I’m not inclined to believe that finances play such a big part in one’s decision to abort. If someone truly believes that they won’t be able to support themselves and a child- and feel that killing them before they have a chance is better for them both- then they’re being lied to.

If pro-life people were to be consistent, they would be far more active than they are in seeking basic health care for ‘unborn children’ who die as a result of spontaneous abortion. These natural deaths massively outweigh the deaths resulting from deliberate abortions: about one third of pregnancies, and more if very early pre-implantation losses are counted. In practice, these ‘unborn children’ are not the subject of much ‘pro life’ activity. The real issue for ‘pro life’ people is the ‘sin’ involved in deliberate abortion.

My suggestions to abortion advocates are:
  1. Why limit it to 28 weeks or birth? Make the limit for life so if you’re a disappointment to your mother, she can send you to the abortion clinic to be terminated.
  2. Let’s make it equitable. Toss a coin. Heads and we kill the unborn child. Tails, we keep the woman comfortable until she’s given birth at full term and then we kill her.

While this is very cute and slogan-y, it shows a vast ignorance of embryo development.

All I can figure is that the world has too many sociopaths who are willfully ignorant of basic human biology.

Unfortunately, science hasn’t come up with a way to prevent all miscarriages, although having miscarried, I’d certainly be supportive of such research! There is a sizable amount of research into the causes of miscarriage, but we’re unable to stop all genetic mutations from occurring. Pro-lifers have shown tremendous consistency in their opposition to contra-implantative, or potentially contra-implantative, birth control methods.

My faith refers to stripping human beings of basic human rights a “sin.” You may call it whatever you wish.

Do you consider abortion “basic health care?”
